Even as spring ball ends, teams are still getting out there recruiting. Locking down commitments, trying to get kids on campus and setting up their summer schedules to watch all of the passing-league action and make on-campus camp evaluations.

The big news this week comes out of the SEC, but it is not from one of the usual suspects. Alabama, LSU, Georgia and Florida are quiet this week, but one of the Gators' and Bulldogs' divisional foes made a big splash.

South Carolina and Steve Spurrier are the toast of the recruiting roundup this week, as they netted a big-time quarterback prospect in Columbia. Connor Mitch, a 6'3", 220-pound quarterback from Raleigh, N.C., committed to the Gamecocks this week, according to the Charlotte Observer. Mitch reportedly had offers from Alabama, LSU and Auburn of the SEC.

This is just the latest top recruit to escape the state of North Carolina, as UNC, NC State, ECU and Wake Forest all reportedly had offers in on the local kid.

Also in the SEC, we have Tennessee grabbing a linebacker. De'Vondre Campbell committed to the Volunteers this week, according to Nooga.com. Campbell is not a high school kid; he's a JUCO that's transferring in to help Sal Sunseri's defense immediately, something the Volunteers desperately need as they transition to the 3-4.

Sticking in the Southeast, Virginia Tech was able to add to its 2013 class by getting a commitment from Deon Newsome, according to the Daily Press.

Newsome is an athlete from Hampton, Va. with an interesting story. He is the son of a former Hokies linebacker, which, on the surface, makes it seem like he should obviously be going to Virginia Tech. The problem is Myron Newsome, Deon's father, is on staff at Virginia under head coach Mike London.

It's a crazy situation where the Hokies and Cavaliers both have ties that could have sent Newsome to either school.

From the ACC to the Big 12, we have the league's two big boys both picking up commitments this week. Texas grabbed Antwuan Davis, a 4-star defensive back, for its 2013 recruiting class, according to the Dallas Morning News. Oklahoma was lucky enough to net a commitment from Stanvon Taylor, a defensive back out of Tulsa East Central high school, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Oklahoma's old-school rival, Nebraska, just got a commitment from Christian Lacouture. Lacouture was a Texas A&M commit, but he re-opened his recruitment and then decided upon the Cornhuskers this week, according to DataOmaha.com.

On the West Coast, we've got a couple of newsworthy pieces.

Mike Leach and the Washington State Cougars picked up an offensive line commitment from Cody O'Connell, according to Rivals.com's Adam Gorney via Twitter.

In even bigger news, Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans have added to their highly ranked class by securing another 4-star commitment. Eldrige Massington—a big, physical receiver from Texas—became the Trojans' fifth commit, according to Sporting News.

Kiffin's class is not big, but he does have three 4-star kids and two 5-star commits as he selects his group carefully this cycle.
