College football attendance hits a 40-year low

It's not just Covid and 70 in TV.'s. But it is those things, in addition to ever increasing ticket costs, booster club memberships, parking fees, $8 hotdogs, 40 year old bathrooms with pee-walls that don't get updated, all games being on TV, and a lot of other things.

Agree

All those things combined - cost, games on TV, quality TV's, etc. I have not been to a game in years (live in CO), but I will say going to events here in CO, while still fun, is less enjoyable over the years. Cost is one thing, but people have become obnoxious assholes. From driving / parking at the event, to inside the event - drunk people being morons, etc. I would rather watch most games at home these days. People are very impatient and it has gotten worse - this was before Covid. Of course the cost once inside is insane. A few beers and something to eat is probably $50.

I believe it has a lot to do with kids these days don’t really care to go to games as much. They would rather go to a party and watch the game. The older generation, who had so much interest in going to games is aging out and let’s face it kids today have a lot more options for entertainment. Combine that with the quality of television, overpriced tickets and I think you have the recipe for a decline

I think you hit the nail on the head there. College football tickets are way more expensive than free parking at a HS game and paying $10 for a ticket.

I talked to a guy recently about how young guys don't take an interest in cars like they used to and he mentioned the cost along with the smart phone stuff.

Kinda the same thing. Kinda not.

For me its age, I did not miss a game in the 80's and 90's, even bowl games but....its time for others to take the reigns by being there. I miss the tailgating, the sights and sounds of the game. Today I have an 70" TV, cold drinks a few steps from said TV, a very clean bathroom, along with a pause button on my remote.
As stated in another post sometimes the fan tensions in the stands are not good.
The last game I attended one of the high dollar supporters was trying to get out of his spot close to WB and all but ran over me and three others and kept going never stopped to check on anyone, he should have he put a woman on the ground.
