Obviously nothing is official yet and we are by no means reporting the final decision has been made, but there are some indications injured USC running back Marcus Lattimore will be making his latest comeback attempt in the NFL. Lattimore is recovering from surgery on his right knee, his second major knee injury in as many seasons.

There have been rumblings Lattimore’s camp is exploring the possibility of hiring an agent and entering the upcoming NFL draft. Some football minds believe even though he’s injured Lattimore could go in the first three or four rounds.

USC’s coaching staff has told at least one recruit they don’t expect Lattimore to be back with the Gamecocks. Philadelphia high school running back David Williams told Kornblut he was informed by USC Lattimore is planning on turning pro.

“He’s got the option to come back but they don’t think he’ll come back,” Williams told Kornblut. “They think he’s going to heal up and get ready for the combine.”

Considering USC has already put Lattimore’s career stats on the ramp at Williams-Brice Stadium it would seem logical they don’t expect him to be adding to them. Given Lattimore’s injury history no one would blame him for making sure he’s getting a paid the next time he takes a hit. He’s proven what he can do when he’s healthy, now needs to prove he can stay that way. It looks like there is a better than slim chance he will be trying to prove that in the NFL.
