I can't remember if you said you have read this or not: All about the Battle off Samar from the point of view of the DD skippers, and one of the best books of men at war I have ever read.

I have read it.  Great book.

I also just happened to see that Hasegawa has a 1/350 scale model of the Gambier Bay a while back.

It looks like a very good kit, if you're into building models like I used to be when I was younger.

Yep, every few years I get the itch and build something (like this Ferdinand, below) - but 1/350 is just too tiny for my clumsy old hands at this point.

I don't have the room unless I buy another curio cabinet to keep stuff in.  I may actually do it by the end of the year if things slow down for me a little.

Nice work on the tank.

Looks like the difference was switching to a larger radial engine from an inline one.  Did the prototype use a Packard engine?
