South Carolina right-handed pitcher Wil Crowe will be back for another year with the Gamecocks. After some conversations with professional teams early on Day 2 of the MLB Draft, Crowe decided it was in his best interest to return to school for one more season.

Crowe has informed the South Carolina coaching staff that he will be back for his redshirt junior season, his fourth as a member of the Gamecocks.

Crowe was a Freshman All-American in 2014 and emerged as the team’s Friday night starter as a sophomore last season. He had some struggles his last couple of starts and came to a head on April 10 against Florida when he had to leave with soreness in his elbow.

Crowe had Tommy John surgery and it ended his 2015 season early but instead of pushing to come back at the end of the 2016 season, Crowe and the coaching staff felt it was in his best interest to redshirt. Crowe was still eligible to be drafted, and some teams were interested in him, but Crowe has decided to return to school for one more year.

Since he is a redshirt junior next season, Crowe will still have leverage in the 2017 MLB Draft.

Crowe made his competitive pitching debut last week on the mound for the Columbia Blowfish. He gave up one run in two innings of work.
