Damarri Mathis
DB Damarri Mathis of Lakeland, FL was one of several commitments for the USC 2017 class in June after working out for the coaches in one of the summer camps. But late last month he became the sixth decommitment from the class. The Gamecocks are working to pull back in some of those like OL TJ Moore, DE Devonte Wyatt and DL Javon Kinlaw. It’s not clear right now if they have the same desire for Mathis and he knows that, but he’s still leaving the door open.
“I just wanted to decommit to look at other schools, weigh my options and make sure I was making the right decision for my future, for me,” Mathis said earlier this week. ” I feel good with my decision. They still want me. My parents talked to T-Rob (Travaris Robinson). He respected my decision.”
Mathis said he’s now looking at Pitt and will visit there December 9th. He’s also looking at Ole Miss, Colorado, Wake Forest, Iowa State and Vanderbilt. He said an official visit to USC also is a possibility. He said he tried to schedule one for November but the coaches wanted him to wait until after the season. He added that he hadn’t talked with Robinson for a couple of weeks prior to his decommitment.
Coaches from North Carolina, South Florida, Iowa State and Pitt have been in this week to see him. Robinson has not said if or when he’s coming in but Mathis expects Robinson to continue to recruit him.
