3 star DB Ronnie Martin 5'11" 185lbs will play his second season at Georgia Military JC this season and will then pack his bags for Columbia. Martin signed with USC out of Spartanburg High School in 2011 but did not qualify. His high school coach Freddie Brown said Thursday night Martin is all set academically to graduate from GMA in December, and he plans to suit up at cornerback for the Gamecocks in 2013. “I talked to him last week and he’s solid with South Carolina,” Brown said. “I talked with Coach (Shawn) Elliott and they are on board to take him. Some other schools came thru, like LSU, but he’s not interested. He said if they (USC) are still committed to him, he’s still committed to them.” Brown said Martin is now up to 189 pounds and still runs in the 4.4 category. Brown was one of the states top prospects in the 2010 season and played on the Shrine Bowl team. Martin gives USC 20 commitments towards the 2013 class.

Ronnie Martin Set to Enroll in January

COLUMBIA, S.C. (December 19, 2012) – Junior college cornerback 3 star 5'11" 185lbs Ronnie Martin has signed a national letter of intent with the University of South Carolina, it was announced today. Will have 3 years to play....

Martin, a 5-10, 180-pounder from Spartanburg, S.C., originally signed with the Gamecocks in February 2011. He has spent the past two seasons at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga., where he was coached by Bert Williams. He saw limited playing time in 2012, as he was sidelined early in the season with a hamstring injury. In the three games prior to the injury, he logged 10 tackles and three interceptions, while forcing a pair of fumbles. He was regarded as the fifth-best junior college cornerback in the nation, according to 247Sports.

Martin played cornerback for Freddy Brown Sr. at Spartanburg High School, graduating in 2011. He participated in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas following his senior season. An all-state selection, Martin was regarded as a three-star prospect coming out of high school.

Martin is expected to arrive on the Columbia campus when the spring semester begins in January.
