Gamecocks’ next home game. Giberti said he talked with Gamecock recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. last week and there continues to be solid interest from the Gamecocks at this point.

“I have not gotten the chance to talk to him since the news broke out (of Steve Spurrier’s resignation),” Giberti said. “I sent him a message. I’m sure he’s a busy man and he told me he’d get back to me soon. Definitely we’re staying in contact and I plan on going up for the Florida game (for unofficial visit.) For him to keep in contact with me as much as he has over the past couple of months, and when I went up there for the junior day, they really wanted me to commit then. They definitely still want me. I want to wait until after me season to do that. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do that but I’m just taking my time.”

Giberti has not scheduled any official visits at this point and he’s looking at December and January for those trips. Among the other schools he’s looking at are Western Kentucky, Army, South Alabama, Florida International and others.

Giberti said the departure of Spurrier from USC is a disappointment but he’s still as interested in the Gamecocks as he was prior to that.

“You commit to a school, not a coach,” he said. “It would be awesome playing for the Ole Ball Coach but at the same time nothing changes about playing for a school like that.”

This season Giberti has 43 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, 3 pass deflections and 1 interception. And at tight end he has 12 catches for 195 yards and 1 touchdown.
