DE Matthew Butler of Garner, NC took an official visit to Texas A&M over the weekend, his fourth official trip of the season.  He’s also been to Penn State, Duke and NC State.  For is final visit, Butler plans to set a date with Tennessee. He’s talking with the Vol coaches regarding the best weekend to come.

USC remains in the mix for Butler.  He’s visited the Gamecocks multiple times unofficially and feels knowledgeable enough and comfortable enough with them to where he doesn’t feel the need for an official visit.

“I’ve already let the South Carolina staff know that,” Butler said.  “They’re still in it.  I’ve seen what I need to see from South Carolina, the players, the coaches and the academics and all of that on my summer visits.”

Butler said he’s in regular contact with USC recruiter Lance Thompson and they last talked late last week with Thompson still trying to get him in for an official visit.

Butler’s high school is heading into the playoffs and he doesn’t want his recruiting to become a distraction so he’s going to wait until the playoff run is over before announcing a decision.  But if he had to make the call today, Butler said he could do it.

“I’m not putting that out there,” Butler said of his favorite.  “If I was to commit today and to the school in my mind I would be comfortable doing that but I’m being very meticulous and being sure that I’m on top of things.”
