Trajan Jeffcoat ® and Kentrell Flowers at USC Wednesday
DE Trajan Jeffcoat of Irmo visited USC Wednesday along with 2019 teammate RB Kentrell Flowers. Jeffcoat met with recruiter Mike Peterson and other coaches and got a tour of the facilities. The visit was an important next step for Jeffcoat in building a relationship with the Gamecocks. The biggest step, however, will come Saturday when he attends the first of Will Muschamp’s summer camps. His performance will determine if the Gamecocks make him an offer right now.
“It was great,” Jeffcoat said of his visit. “I saw the facilities, the campus, everything. It looked very nice up there. At the moment, I’m looking right for the Buck position. They want to see how I do at the camp coming up and then an offer will come in if I do well at the camp. That’s weighing on my mind right now but I’m very confident.”
Jeffcoat’s offers right now include Missouri, Indiana, Colorado State and East Carolina, but he said a USC offer would open up a whole new world to him.
“That would make me think highly of myself but I always want to stay humble and always keep my prayers up,” Jeffcoat said. “That would mean a lot because I really want to be in the SEC. That’s really my target.”
Jeffcoat said an offer from USC would put it at the top of his list but he wouldn’t commit on the spot and would continue with his recruiting. He said Missouri and Virginia Tech also are working him hard. He said the Hokies want him to camp there for an offer.
Jeffcoat said Peterson has explained to him precisely how he would fit in with the Gamecock defense and he now has a clear understanding of his plan for him.
“I really, really admire the fact they explained the position exactly how I would play it,” he said. “The stand-up rush end or the drop-back in coverage outside linebacker type. It’s something like a prototype defensive end-outside linebacker.”
Last season Jeffcoat was in on 48 tackles and 6 sacks.
