Decision day?
Three-star junior-college defensive end Dorian Gerald lit up Twitter on Thursday night.
The rising sophomore at College of the Canyons (Santa Clarita, Calif.) later told SEC Country that evening that he was on the verge of making an announcement, either that night, “but most likely tomorrow.”
It’s “tomorrow” and no commitment has been made, at least not yet.
South Carolina landed a Crystal Ball pick for Gerald earlier this week and — from this perspective — that selection looks like it could come to fruition.
Crystal Ball evaluations
A flood of predictions came through on the 247Sports Crystal Ball after 2018 defensive end Stephon Wynn Jr. announced that he would reveal a commitment on July 1.
Wynn, a 4-star at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), lists Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina as his finalists.
Since his tweet late Wednesday afternoon, Georgia has received seven nods on the Crystal Ball. South Carolina picked up one.
However, multiple sources have indicated that Georgia might not necessarily have that firm of a lead on Wynn, who attended T.L. Hanna High School (Anderson, S.C.) before transferring to IMG.
If there were a Crystal Ball reading coming from this space, it would be South Carolina.
We’ll find out for sure on July 1 when Wynn gathers with friends and family at the Anderson Recreation Center.
On the 247Sports Crystal Ball, six more picks were issued for South Carolina, with five of then going to 3-star athlete Bryce Thompson. He recently tweeted that he was planning for a July 30 commitment date.
The former Virginia Tech pledge recently transferred from Ben Lippen School to Dutch Fork High School (Irmo, S.C.), where his high school career began. South Carolina had him on campus recently for camp, where he worked out for coach Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, but also took reps at wide receiver.
Smart money is on the Gamecocks.
Another T-Rob worker
Jammie Robinson, one of the top 2019 cornerbacks in the country, visited with a pair of teammates from Crisp County High School (Cordele, Ga.) for South Carolina’s camp.
Ranked by 247Sports as the No. 33 cornerback in the Class of 2019, Robinson thinks highly of Gamecocks defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson, who’s of no relation.
Camping with the Gamecocks, the younger Robinson said, “was a great opportunity.”
“T-Rob is an awesome coach. I love how he pushed me during the workouts,” he said.
Muschamp had a hands-on approach, too.
“I also did a workout with him. It was great,” Robinson said. “We talked after and he told me some great things.”
This summer, he’s also visited Florida State and Auburn. LSU is up next.
New No. 1
Three-star tight end Tommy Tremble, just days after his visit to South Carolina, ventured up north for a visit to Notre Dame.
Apparently, it went well.
Tremble, a 2018 from Wesleyan School in Norcross, Ga., is ranked by the 247Sports composite as the No. 24 tight end in the country.
Over the last 24 hours, two 247Sports Crystal Ball picks have been made for Notre Dame.
