2019 Gamecock Recruiting class is full and has a nice diversity overall. The only thing lacking in the 2019 cycle was a top-notch running back, Gamecocks could feel those needs with 2020 class. Names to keep an Eye on are  Five-star tailback MarShawn Lloyd and Four-star targets Tank Bigsby. Gamecock are in good with both. Gamecocks have a good chance at both at this time. On the defensive side lots of talented players, the Gamecocks are at this time involved with some instate and out of state top talent. If Boom can have a good season next year get to 8 to 10 wins would help in landing some of the top talents. This could be the class that can put them over the hump and possible rival the Class the ole Ball Coach had in 2007 to lay the groundwork for the success he had. 2020 class has started out with a bang. With the Ops building in full swing, this will be another exciting recruiting cycle to follow so let the commits commence!!

Breaking down the recruiting calendar and rules

The NCAA’s football recruiting calendar and rules went through an overhaul in 2018, resulting in changes such as an early signing period, spring official visits, and summer camp limitations, among other things. Gamecock Central provides a primer here for the remainder of the calendar year of what the rules allow for in terms of prospect campus visits, coaches hitting the road, camp workouts, and communications.

Right now, we are in the midst of a quiet period, which means that prospects may visit campus but coaches are not allowed to visit prospects off campus. This period lasts until April 14.

Beginning on April 1 until the Sunday before the last Wednesday in June, which this year falls on June 23, 2020 prospects can take official visits to campus. We have seen Will Muschamp and his staff utilize spring official visits the past two recruiting cycles. Those prospects are also permitted to take officials during another window beginning on the opening day of classes their senior year of high school. The limit is still five official visits in total, one to each school.

The date of April 15 triggers an evaluation period in which college coaches (just assistants, the head coach is prohibited during this time) may visit high schools and junior colleges to scout and evaluate players. That time frame lasts until May 31.

Coaches are also allowed to place one total phone call to 2020 prospects (or a family member) any time from April 15-May 31, notwithstanding exceptions related to campus visits. Coaches and prospects can still talk on the phone at other points, so long as the prospect initiates the phone call.

There is a month-long dead period from June 24 until July 24 in which no in-person contact, either on or off campus, is permitted between coaches and prospects. There’s a one-week open period (campus visits allowed) after that, then the dead period begins once again from August 1-31.

The batch of rule changes instituted in 2018 scaled back the total number of summer camp dates schools are allowed to hold. During the month of June, Will Muschamp and his staff will host thousands of summer campers in Columbia for the maximum of 10 allotted camp dates.

Coaches may make one phone call per week to 2020 prospects beginning in September, when a contact period is not ongoing.

During the season, the so-called contact period runs in 2018 from November 25 until December 16, allowing coaches opportunities to make school and home visits with 2020 prospects and to check in on underclassmen at schools. Coaches are allowed to make phone calls to 2020 prospects or their family members at their discretion during this time period.

Carolina really putting together a strong offensive line group size and talent 2-4 stars and so far 1-3 star which they got today. What do you all think?

Who will be the Gamecocks next commit?

Four-star WR Michael Wyman  6-foot-4, 197-pounder on April 16?

Since the last post Kaba has committed as most know. Keeping this thread rolling along.

I expect either Bigsby or Myles Murphy (from NC) to be the next to pull the trigger followed by the other. Also look out for Capers to flip from Arkansas. All three could occur within the next month or so.

I felt like Bigs had been a lean our way with everything I have been reading.  I did not have the seem feeling about Murphy, but hope you are right on him.

Murphy has set an official visit with us for May 31st. It will be his first OV - I wish we would be his last, but he has a good friend in WR Mike Wyman who's already committed to us for the 2020 class, and will be in Murphy's ear all summer and fall long....

I think recruiting is really looking bright for us.  I’m hoping this class will be the beginning of top 15 or even better top 10 classes yearly.  I think a 9-4 year with a big upset win and bowl win would create momentum for us to get elite classes down the road.  Coaches are working hard on the trail but we need some on field marquee wins to get the next level kid.  If we are in the top 12 yearly, that gives us the talent to do big things.

I think we will be in Top 15. However, if we could land just 1 Five star with what we have I think we could creep into the Top 10.

This class if all chips can fall in place this could be one of the best or just the best ever for Gamecock football. Will be fun watching it all play out.

If we can keep these commits intact till Feb. this will be the best class we have ever had. I still think we have several big time recruits we are working and we will get at least one of them. Going to be fun watching it play out. Go Gamecocks.

Couldn't agree more.  :football-trophy-smiley-emoticosmall:

Another big commitment in high 3* CB Joey Hunter today! Also pretty big news indirectly: Auburn secured a commitment from 4* LB Wesley Steiner. The talk was that Auburn was down to a final LB spot for either Steiner - who USC was not recruiting - and 4* LB prospect Desmond Tisdol, who we are a finalist for. So with Steiner's commitment to AU, that puts us in better position to perhaps take Tisdol, but we're also in the running for 4* LB Le'Neth Whitehead. But either way, the dominoes are starting to fall for some top targets of ours....

The film I saw on Hunter looked pretty good.  He has good size and looks like he likes to hit.  Happy to see us getting bigger CB's that bring the wood!!
