4 stat DL Darrius Caldwell 6'6" 240lbs of Pearl River JC, MS committed to USC earlier this month after recruiter Deke Adams called with the news that his transcripts looked good enough for enrollment. Caldwell is scheduled for his official visit to USC this weekend but before then he will meet with Adams at Pearl River where Adams was once the secondary coach. Caldwell's current coach, Williams Jones, was Adams' boss at Pearl River so the two know each other well. Jones feels USC would be an excellent fit for Caldwell. "Darrius has got the ability to play on Sundays," Jones said. "There's not a better fit for him than South Carolina. It's in the SEC, there's great weather, and it's a great program. There couldn't be a better fit for him." Of course, all involved understand there's academic work ahead for Caldwell before he can put on a USC uniform. "We've had that conversation with coach Adams," Jones said. "His grades are OK. He did college work for two years at Illinois. He's just got to take care of his business academically." Caldwell signed with Illinois out of his Atlanta high school in 2011. He redshirted his first season then played one season for the Illini and one at the junior college. He will have two years to play two with the Gamecocks.
