South Carolina received a commitment on Friday afternoon from three-star running back Rico Dowdle 6'1" 206lbs (Asheville, N.C./AC Reynolds). Dowdle is the second running back in the class joining CJ Freeman.

Dowdle, a Shrine Bowl participant, holds a 0.8556 rating in the 247Sports Composite but is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports.

Dowdle picked the Gamecocks over offers from Tennessee and others. He is expected to visit officially on January 22.

South Carolina is now ranked No. 31 nationally in the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings. The Gamecocks, which have 18 total commitments in the class right now, are ranked No. 11 in the SEC.

Great speed, vision, elusiveness, and power, but mostly like how he seems to dislike going out of bounds. He battles for every yard and cuts it back inside when cornered to the sideline because it means no more yards. One thing he hates worse than the sideline is the ground. He doesn't go down easy at all. Great get! I think he'll help next year, but still want Tyren Jones. His HS film is ridiculous too. Just hope he's grown up as Bama suspended him before kicking him off the team, but he didn't do anything he needed to do. Will a year make a difference. If not, at least we'll have Dowdle who might be our best back as soon as he steps on campus.
