Jones gives thought on top 4
Three-star outside linebacker Ernest Jones, who released a list of four finalists on Sunday night, will announce a commitment to Duke, Florida, Georgia Tech or South Carolina on May 5.
“The whole recruiting process is very fun. It’s frustrating at times, trying to do stuff for this coach and do stuff for that coach, so I had to narrow down my list,” Jones said. “But, overall, I’ve enjoyed all these visits that I took with my mom. It was good bonding time. The relationships that I built with coaches are a big thing.
“Telling three of the other coaches that I built relationships with that I won’t be coming to their school, it’s going to be hard, but it’s something that has to be done.”
Jones (6-foot-2, 205 pounds), a junior from Ware County High School in Waycross, Ga., is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 32 outside linebacker in the Class of 2018. Among prospects from the state of Georgia, he’s ranked No. 48 overall.
Below are Jones’ thoughts on the four schools he’s listed as finalists:
Duke: “Duke, overall, is a good school. The ACC is a good conference. It’s on the way up, so that’s a plus. But I’m real big in the medical field. I want to be some type of doctor or physical therapist and they have one of the top medical schools in the world, so that’s why they stood out to me, more than anything.”
Florida: “Growing up, Florida was my dream school, so being able to have that choice of schools to go to was always good.”
Georgia Tech: “Georgia Tech has been there since my recruiting started, well, before it even started, actually. They were the first Power 5 school to offer me, so there’s always some type of connection there. It’s close to home.”
South Carolina: “Growing up, I always wanted to play in the SEC. I took a visit there not knowing how it would be or how I would feel. When I stepped on campus, I just fell in love with everything. I loved the South Carolina football team, growing up watching them, so I’ve always been a fan of some sort. Just to get on campus to talk with coach Muschamp and for them to tell me how they would use me if I were to commit there, it feels like it would be a great fit for me.”
Jaycee Horn to return
SEC Country has confirmed that 3-star cornerback Jaycee Horn will visit South Carolina later this week. The 6-foot, 174-pound prospect from Alpharetta (Ga.) High School will arrive Thursday and stay through Saturday.
Horn, whose father, Joe, played wide receiver in the NFL, visited Alabama last weekend for its spring game, after which he declared the Tide as the team to beat.
According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Horn is listed as the No. 32 cornerback in the Class of 2018.
