Expectations already building for Gamecocks in Year 2 under Shane Beamer. What’s realistic? Let's see
Jan. 28, 2022

South Carolina catapulted itself into the public consciousness in Shane Beamer’s first fall in Columbia. It beat Florida Auburn to get bowl eligible. It throttled North Carolina in a 38-21, condiment-crazed Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Dec. 30 to finish 7-6. Throw in the addition of Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler and five other prolific transfer portal acquisitions over the last month and it’s hard to imagine a better 2021 for a team that was slotted for somewhere between three and five wins this fall. South Carolina Football Could Standout In 2022

One media outlet that expects the Gamecocks to continue building upon the success of 2021 is 24/7 Sports. College football contributor Brad Crawford recently included South Carolina as a team that he says could “flash” next season.

Here’s what Crawford had to say about the Gamecocks’ outlook heading into 2022.

South Carolina overachieved based on outside expectations during Shane Beamer’s first season with seven wins, including a Mayo Bowl triumph over border rival North Carolina. Inconsistencies at the quarterback position all season should be solved in 2022 with former Oklahoma signal caller Spencer Rattler headlining an expansive transfer class for the Gamecocks. South Carolina’s Week 2 showdown at Arkansas — the SEC opener for both teams — is one of the league’s most pivotal early-season matchups and will determine where both of these programs stand in the early going.
South Carolina should find itself back in a bowl game when all is said and done next year, but there’s a chance that it could produce even more if things fall into place. There are obviously some difficult matchups, including having to face Arkansas and Georgia over the season’s first three weeks.

Still, should the Gamecocks win some toss-up games and have the ball bounce their way, getting to eight or nine wins shouldn’t be out of the question. There are growing expectations in Columbia for year two with Shane Beamer.

Hopefully, the Gamecocks can flash that potential in another successful campaign

Having been a MAJOR skeptic of our program the last 3+ years, I can say with all confidence we make major strides in the next 2 seasons. I’m a Beamster Baller!

I think we will win 9 this season. Some of the close ones we should have won last year, such as Kentucky, I believe we win this time. With the addition of the new players, I think we can beat some of the ones we haven't in a while, and make the bigger guys nervous. If the offense can come out clicking at the beginning of the season, I think we can beat Arky, and make Georgia sweat a little bit. IF the offense is doing well, I think we have a shot at Texas A&M, especially at home. Florida makes me a bit nervous, because I think Napier will turn them around quickly. I know Tennessee beat the crap out of us last year, but I don't think they will with the addtions, and we are at home. Again, IF our offense clicks, and if Clemson doesn't improve, we may have a shot there, but here is how I think it shakes out. I'm really hoping Rattler and company start tearing it up!
