Final injury report before the Charlotte game
Sept. 22, 2023

Shane Beamer, speaking on his weekly call-in show stated that South Carolina will be without two defensive backs for Saturday’s game against Charlotte. Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer said starting cornerback Darius Rush and fellow DB David Spaulding won’t play against the 49ers. Rush left the Georgia game on Saturday with a hamstring injury. He had also been shaken up in the Arkansas game. The senior started 12 games last season and had 25 tackles.

While Rush and Spaulding are out, Beamer is optimistic that defensive backs Cam Smith, RJ Roderick, and Devonni Reed, receiver Corey Rucker, defensive lineman Alex Huntley, and linebacker Stone Blanton could go against Charlotte. Rucker, a transfer from Arkansas State, has yet to play in a game this season but practiced this week.

“I would say those guys are questionable but we are optimistic,” Beamer said of the rest of the injury list. “Those guys all practiced to a certain degree this week and did something in practice today. We will do a one-hour walk-through (Friday) and then got all day Saturday to see how they look in pregame warmups.”

Jordan Strachan, Chad Terrell and Mohamed Kaba are all out for the rest of the year with ACL injuries.

South Carolina hosts Charlotte Saturday night (7:30 p.m., ESPNU). The Gamecocks have dropped their last two games to Arkansas on the road and at home to Georgia.
