According to multuple reports, South Carolina will land a signature from former Clemson cornerback 3 star Kaleb Chalmers 5' 11" 171lbs.
The news was reported by shortly after Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp tweeted his customary “SpursUp” in Wednesday morning.
Chalmers, who just wrapped up the fall semester at Northwest Mississippi Community College, will make an announcement later this afternoon.
Chalmers picked South Carolina over Ole Miss.
The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect took an official visit to South Carolina for the weekend of the Western Carolina game. Ole Miss hosted him this past weekend.
Originally from Greenwood (S.C.) High School, Chalmers was the country’s No. 46-ranked cornerback when he signed enrolled at Clemson in January of 2015.
In March, Chalmers was arrested on simple possession drug charges, before being dismissed by Clemson coach Dabo Swinney.
“Hopefully, he will finish school and have an opportunity to grow from his mistakes and actions,” Swinney said. “He is a very talented young man and it is always disappointing when you have somebody that embarrasses your program, but that’s the end of the road for him here at Clemson.”
Chalmers now has that opportunity at South Carolina.
After taking a redshirt at Clemson in 2015, Chalmers had 30 tackles, 13 pass breakups and an interception for Northwest Mississippi Community College.
For the Gamecocks, he has three years of eligibility remaining.
According to the 247Sports composite junior college rankings, Chalmers is the No. 14-ranked cornerback in the country.
South Carolina’s recruiting focus now turns to Keisean Nixon, the country’s No. 5-ranked JUCO cornerback.
The Gamecocks 2017 signing class includes five others: 4-star cornerback Jamyest Williams, 4-star safety Hamsah Nasirildeen, 3-star safety Jaylin Dickerson, 3-star cornerback Tavyn Jackson and 3-star safety Zay Brown.
Chalmers is also the third JUCO commitment, joining 3-star offensive tackle Dennis Daley and 3-star linebacker Eldridge Thompson.
