Former SC Mr. Football has interest in Gamecocks

Former South Carolina Mr. Football winner Tramel Terry is interested in coming home and playing at USC after spending a few years at Georgia.
The former four-star prospect and the top-ranked player in South Carolina for the 2013 recruiting class said he has heard from the Carolina coaching staff and the interest is mutual.
“South Carolina stands out,” he said. “It’s home. I pretty much know everybody on the team. It wouldn’t be like I was going somewhere random.”
Terry said he has talked with Steve Spurrier Jr. and has been told that a new coach should be in place by early December. He is planning to take an official visit with his family then.
“I’ve been to South Carolina like 30 million times coming out of high school,” he said. “I would take an official so my family could go up there and get to know the coaching staff.”
Terry is attending classes at Georgia but is not playing football. He tore his ACL during the Shrine Bowl in 2012 and redshirted his first season at UGA.
After signing to play offense with the Bulldogs, he was moved to defense at the end of his redshirt season. As a redshirt freshman he saw limited action, playing in 10 games and making 10 tackles and one interception.
Terry said he wasn’t slowed by his injury but instead by the Bulldogs changing defensive coordinators. Todd Grantham convinced Terry to switch to defense at the end of the 2013 season, but when Jeremy Pruitt took over the defense for the 2014 season Terry didn’t get much playing time.
“My injury had nothing to do with it. My freshman year I ended up moving to defense because Grantham had been begging me to do it all year,” Terry said. “He liked me at safety. I was making plays and stuff. Then he ended up leaving… and then the new coach came in and he wanted to play his guys.”
Terry considered playing offense at Georgia this season but said he didn’t believe he would get much playing time.
“By the time I tried to go back to offense it was too late,” he said. “We had already gotten Sony (Michel), (Nick) Chubb, Terry (Godwin), everybody.”
Terry is planning to play offense at his next school. He said he will play running back or receiver but believes running back is a more natural fit.
Terry is confident he can be a playmaker.
“I already know what I can do with the ball in my hands,” he said. “Steve Spurrier Jr. started recruiting me when I was a freshman in high school. He knows what I can do.”
Terry said he is hearing from several schools, including Jacksonville St. and Duke. He visited Jacksonville St. this past weekend.
