Mike Hughes
USC is taking a look at former North Carolina cornerback Mike Hughes who was a standout at Garden City JC, KS this past season.  “Yes sir they have been recruiting me pretty hard,” Hughes confirmed over the weekend.  He did not say if he will take an official visit to USC.  He has taken officials to East Carolina and TCU.

Hughes is a native of New Bern, NC.  He played in 12 games as a true freshman at UNC in 2015.  He was suspended for one game after his arrest for a count of misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury after an incident at a UNC fraternity house in October of 2015.  He agreed to 100 hours of community service and restitution to clear his record.  He left the Tar Heels in February for what was termed “personal reasons.”

This past season Hughes had 47 tackles with 2 interceptions and 6 passes broken up.  He has three years to play two at his next stop.

In high school, Hughes was one of the top prospects in his state playing quarterback, receiver and defensive back for New Bern High School.  He also returned punts and kicks and he punted.  He was selected for the 2014 Shrine Bowl.

USC offered Hughes under the Steve Spurrier staff and Deke Adams recruited him for the Gamecocks.  Some of his other offers during the high school recruiting process were Clemson, Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Virginia, NC State, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M and Ohio State.
