USC’s new coaching staff has attacked the junior college ranks with diligence since coming on board in December but one player not yet contacted by the staff is former Gamecock signee DB Octavis Johnson 6'0" 190lbs of Mississippi Gulf Coast JC.
Johnson was a prized recruit for Steve Spurrier’s staff for the 2015 recruiting class but failed to qualify. The Gamecocks arranged for him to enroll at the junior college with a plan to play there in 2015 and graduate in the summer of ’16 so he would only use one season of eligibility. But since he’s not heard from Will Muschamp’s staff, Johnson said he plans to play this season at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Johnson said he has an offer from Mississippi State and he has also heard from Auburn and Louisville. He has not yet taken any visits.
Johnson said he’s on track to graduate in December and that will leave him with three years to play two.
Last season Johnson had 32 tackles with 2 interceptions and 5 passes defended.
