At this point, is it worth scheduling competitive out of conference games given the clear bias towards record? I am not saying dump the palmetto bowl, but should we buy out the game vs VT next year and schedule CSU or Anderson University?

Given the payout of the playoffs there’s zero reason for the SEC to play 9 games, if anything play 7 conference games and make number 8 the championship. How does the SEC as a whole address the face that there are multiple teams with 1 or 2 ranked wins with SOS in the 50’s playing while teams with top 10 SOS and similar records are playing in the trash bowl?

Revenue sharing to the players will kick in next year.

Hard to say what will happen.

I hate it because I love big OCC matchups. But the committee’s direction is clear for everyone. Schedule as many cupcake OOC games as you can to rack up the win total. SOS be dammed.

It will be great to bring the Bama game back to Willy-B. All 4 of the SEC road games will be tough but if Clayton can bring back a D close to what we started with this season, we could see another great season. So far, the recruits look good. Might have to play some freshman but that worked out great this season. The Portal could be a huge asset again.
I understand wanting easier OOC with the way they pick the CFP teams based on record, and not actually the 12 best teams. And it is hard to understand 5 conf. champions guaranteed a spot in the 12.
Who the heck plays in the Mountain West? I mean Boise St's SOS was #78. They did not play anyone, yet they got a bye in the CFP because they went 12-1.
At least the ACC did not get a bye. If the SEC does go to 9 conf. games after next season, we really may have to drop Clemson. Having to play 9 SEC teams, you really need the other 3 to be as easy as possible. Maybe we could get schools like Spartanburg Methodist, Aiken Tech, and Coker to field teams so we could play them.

They really need to change how they are going to pick the 12 teams.

I wouldn't be surprised if it goes to 16 teams next year after all the turmoil this year.

Interesting that our SEC schedule is all the same teams from this season. Is that the same for everyone? I thought they would mix it up more each season.

I think the 12 team format is locked in for 2 years. 2024 and 2025. After that, they will re-evaluate. And I am sure they will.

I would be OK with automatic bids for conference winners, but not an automatic 1st round bye.

Pretty sure the SEC made the schedule like this for the first 2 years of Texas and Oklahoma to buy themselves time to find an acceptable rotation. Every team's conference slate is the same next year, just switch the home team.

As for CFP, I don't understand why they didn't just go to 16. I was happy when they decided to expand, but did not like this format. I'm not a big proponent of byes in playoffs to begin with, but there's no reason that being a conference champion should automatically get a bye. I have no problem including conference champions, but byes should be merit based and go to the top 4 seeds regardless of conference. There's no way Arizona St deserved a bye over anyone but Clemson.

So that means UTex gets a cush schedule again next year? They played 1 ranked team (latest poll) this past season. We played 4. 🤬

Texas is scheduled to play Ohio St in the first game. Then they have 3 easy OOC before they even start their SEC play.

Oct 4 (Sat) at Florida
Oct 11 (Sat) Oklahoma in Dallas
Oct 18 (Sat) at Kentucky
Oct 25 (Sat) at Mississippi State
Nov 1 (Sat) Vanderbilt
BYE
Nov 15 (Sat) at Georgia
Nov 22 (Sat) Arkansas
Nov 29 (Sat) Texas A&M

Probably the easiest SEC schedule any team has unless A&M, Vandy, and UK somehow improve.
