Game week 3: Talking Alabama Crimson Tide (Discussion Thread)

I just don’t see anyway it’s even a good game based on what I’ve seen.  We aren’t strong enough on either lines of scrimmage.  They’ll watch the UNC film and pin their ears back and come after Hilinski and I don’t have much hope our running game will get very far.   I hope we have a similar game plan as last week and get the ball out as quick as possible.  If our Oline plays out of its mind maybe we can keep the Bama offense off the field enough to cover the spread.

On defense I don’t see anyway we will stop them though.  Just have to hope they play sloppy and give us some turnovers.  Maybe the crowd can get to them like 2010!

I don’t like being negative but Bama is going to destroy a lot of really good teams this year so it’s not just us.  Just have to be realistic and find a way to beat Mizzou, Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida this year.  And hope not to get Hilinski hurt on Sat.

i wonder how good this alabama defense is with the changes in personnel and staff.  from 2015-17 they were no.1 each year in yards per play allowed vs fbs teams, last year they dropped to no.21 and got exposed at the end of the season under a new dc who left this offseason.  did they correct those issues or are they still there?

on the other side of the ball even if the dline plays well theyre going to get the ball to their playmakers in space so for me personally im looking at the lb and safety play if we're going to give ourselves a chance.  taking good angles, tackling in space, and the cherry on top will be forcing some turnovers.

Anything is possible any given Saturday, and I am hopeful but know that our secondary and it's depth is just not up to the caliber it needs to be from an experience perspective.  If we can tackle, I think we can keep it close.....

That’s a good point about their defensive drop off last year.  I do think the general assumption is that they will be playing in the NC game again this year... but everybody thought that in 2010 too.  It’s early and for all we know Bama isn’t its usual self and loses a couple of games this year.   We’re all just assuming we’re playing the very best that Bama has to offer but that’s not a given just yet.

I want to believe we can win this game, but I just don't know if we have what it takes, yet. With that being said, if we do win, I like my crow with hot sauce.
Just about everything tastes better with hot sauce. :)

One thing we must do to keep this game from getting out of hand....contain Jerry Jeudy.  If we do not, Alabama scores 50+.

I think we will though.

If we win the turnover battle by 3 or more, we have a chance.
This!  And I would love to see that.

My dream scenario is that we come from behind in the 4th quarter trailing 38-30 and win it 41-38 with a FG with time running out.

My biggest concern is our corners. Their receivers are as nasty as they come and I don't Isreal is up for it.

Going to take the D giving up less than 25 and the O making a lot of plays and using both QBs.

We can't let them control the LOS if we want to have a chance.  We need to be able to run the ball and get chunk plays with the run as well as consistent 3-4 yard runs.  I think Hilinski has to play well, but we have to make him not carry the O but just facilitate getting the ball out to playmakers.  The way we started Saturday is exactly how we should have started every game no matter the QB.  We need to get the ball in space and have some new wrinkles.  Going to be a tall order Saturday, just hope we make it competitive into the fourth and let the chips fall where they may.
Good points...I think if the D can give up less than 40 we have a shot...if we can run and keep our attack balanced the O may be able to score 40...Hilinski has me believing. That and Garcia being at the game.

Nice reference, Nerf. If I am not mistaken, the Power Station was Robert Palmer's only time in a band, rather than as a solo artist.

Alabama is very good, but a couple of things to note. One, they are not as productive running the ball as in years past. They lost their #1 and #3 RBs, and the returning #2 back (Najee Harris) is not as strong up the middle, plus they lose three starting O Lineman. Two, they are going with a new Nose Tackle and one new starting DE. Oddly enough, UNC may have had as much strength up the middle on Defense as Alabama. So everyone saying that "If UNC dominated us, wait until you see what Alabama will do" may be off a little, plus Stanley at Center makes a difference. We have a physical O Line now.

To have a chance, we do not need to win the line of scrimmage as much as hold our own. And we have a better chance against this year's version of Alabama's lines. They will be better later in the year - after all, they are backfilling with 4* and 5* players - but it will not be as much of a mismatch on the lines as people are thinking.
One of things Hilinski really impressed me with was his ability to get the ball out quickly.....even when Alabama's D breaks through our line with Hilinski's quickness the ball will already be gone

I don't think we'll win this game, but I just hope we can keep it a competitive game from start to finish and not be a total embarrassment, like the UNC game and most of our big games that we've played in the past 4 or 5 years. I think we have a better chance of not being a total flop on offense now that Ryan Hilinski is the QB. If I were Coach Muschamp, the other major change I'd make to the offense is I'd make Kevin Harris my # 1 back and use him until he proves that last week wasn't just a Fluke. That young man has got some Skills toting the rock ! I don't see our defense being strong enough to stop Bama's offense enough times to keep this game close enough to pull off an upset. Praying for an upset, but I don't think it's in the cards. I'm just hoping for a strong game from the team and some hope for the rest of the season. If we play this game anything close to the way we did against UNC, it will be over by halftime. GO COCKS !

At halftime we still looked good. Our D was stopping them in the red zone. It was everything after the half that looked so terrible. The O 3 and outs wore out our D so that at the end of the 3rd, UNC was beating them up bad. After the second TD our D came back alive and got some 3 and outs to get the ball back but our O looked awful then. I don't think Hilinski or Harris will let that happen again. Neither of them got a chance then. I hope Harris gets plenty of playing time now. He can break tackles.

Against Bama they should all 4 get playing time. Keep them all fresh and wear down that Bama D. Rico and Feaster first but like you said, Mon needs to get his shot. With 4 good ones, Ryan should get plenty of chances on RPOs.

Power Station FTW!!! :)

One of my favorite songs from the 80s.
