GAMECOCK-GAMEDAY THREAD: South Carolina vs. Georgia ***Feb. 12,  at 6:30pm.***

for some reason either kotsar wasnt credited with a block he had in the 2nd half or one he had in the 1st half was taken away.  not something any of us are too concerned about, still though.  lawson starting in december went 12 straight games with at least 2 turnovers and didnt have more assists than turnovers in any of those games.   his last 6 games only 3 turnovers.  tonight 20 pts 3 steals 2 assists 0 turnovers.

Hopefully we are starting to see some good consistency from the team down the final stretch, which would be capitalizing on the opportunities of playing much of the bottom half of the league standings the rest of the way. Got to make the hay while the sun shines!!!

purely in conference play from previous years kotsar's leap is incredible.  i thought going into the season he needed to improve from 2 particularly in sec play though i thought he couldnt make a big impact unless he stretched his range out to the 3pt line and i was wrong.  going into this year he never shot above 40.5% on 2pt shots in sec play, going into tonight 53.8%.  hes become money from the midrange.  never had more assists than turnovers in sec play, this year 2:1 ratio.  79.3% from the ft line in sec play this year.  i dont think theres a defender in the league thats come close to his impact in sec play.

here's an sec play offensive and defensive rating comparison to thornwell's last season courtesy of sports-reference.com.

thornwell ortg 120.9 drtg 89.3

kotsar ortg 120.7 drtg 90.0

that 30.7 differential leads the sec this year.

In other SEC play tonight, 11th-ranked Auburn escaped in a tough battle with in-state rival Alabama in overtime, 95-91, and Florida routed Texas A&M 78-61. With those and our game, the SEC standings are as follows:

The UGA game at home and the Vanderbilt game in Nashville seem to be the easiest - doubt either of those teams have much chance at post-season play this season, and they will be looking towards their off-season plans. Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Alabama are basically where we are, and like us still have some say in how their seasons end, but we are right there with them with 2 games (UTjr. & MSU) at home, and 2 (Alabama & MSU) on the road. The LSU game will be the toughest but is at home, so we will have a chance there...

The Ole Miss loss isn't looking as bad anymore, since they've now won 3 in a row.  Only Auburn and Kentucky have streaks with wins of that duration right now.  Those W's are harder and harder to come by this late in the season.  If we can put another W to our resume vs. Tennessee this weekend, we start looking pretty strong in that famed Lunardi "last 4 out" list.  Of course, we still have to add some of the big W's to our resume as well (Miss. St. or LSU).  It's looking quite do-able, though.  And some of the national prognosticators are starting to believe in us as well, with 6 of 8 W's recently.

Go 'Cocks!

leveque is annoying me to no end with his lack of rim protection lately.  hes gone from the next silva to haase.  if frank doesnt bench him the rest of the game i swear.  doesnt rebound on the free throw then gives up a potential 4 pt play wtf is he doing out there if hes not blocking shots or grabbing rebounds.
He is a Freshmen who played 7 minutes and gave us 1 rebound with 1 assist, 3 fouls and no turnovers, Moss played 15 minutes and put up the same stat line minus 2 fouls, 22 minutes from 2 Fr with no turnovers is a win in my book. I thought the foul on the 3 point shooter was a bad call, a flop and understandable call as Widens should jump straight up as he will learn to do but he is a FR and FR make FR mistakes that will annoy and frustrate. Many wanted Kotsar gone after last year, were annoyed and frustrated with him but look at the player he has become, many wanted Silva gone after his FR year but look at the player he became, I understand your frustration but have patients as I think if he can take the heat from Martin he will be a good one, he is aggressive and has a pretty good feel for the game.

Frink and McCreary have started to play without hesitation and with confidence on both ends of the floor, finding their place and being comfortable with it! Between them, Bryant and Hannibal we have shown great depth even with the loss of Minaya. We played 9 guys 15 minutes, Bolden can be a hot hand and Hannibal impresses more and more as he learns to play under control. I'm most impressed with the way they pass the ball, I used to get so frustrated with the lackadaisical passing of Martin teams on the offensive end of the floor and the last 5 games we have limited stupid turnovers and moved the ball with authority and crispness that teams with chemistry do. The Final Four team was the worse early in the year with lazy passes and a bulb seemed to go off late in the year, they played with purpose and aggressiveness the latter half of the year and into the tourney.

FINALLY someone else is beating the same drum I've been beating since last June!!  Our team needed time to gel, period.  We had 4 total guys who had ANY court time with each other returning.  ALL of the rest of the team were either FR, RS or were coming off significant injuries.  It was a project that needed some work to turn into a well oiled machine.  I've said for years that Coach Martin is one of the best X's and O's coaches in the SEC, and will win 4 out of every 5 games if we keep them close.  He understands  how to read other teams offensive tendencies like nobody's business, and can put defenses in that cause turnovers and easy baskets.  Add to that the fact that we FINALLY have shooters, great PG play, and great interior play PLUS a deep bench... We've got a team that literally can compete with any team in the SEC (and in most cases BEAT any team in the SEC).

On an unrelated topic... I'm a little scared of the Miss. St. games coming up.  We don't match up well with their strengths and we'll end up going deep into our bench in those two contests to play with them (foul trouble will likely rear it's ugly head again, due to the style that Miss. State plays).  But I truly think we could (and this is going to sound really strange) DOMINATE against LSU (meaning we beat them by at least 8-10 points), and have a lead most of the game.  If we steal one against Miss. St., beat LSU and win all of the games that we SHOULD win, I think we should see our NET rankings in the top 55 teams to end the season, which puts us in a great spot for an NCAA berth.

Keep the faith, fellow Gamecock Fanatics!  Our time is now!  And the future is even brighter!

youre absolutely right, i meant to go back and add some perspective to his struggles because i have been overly end of the world negative in regards to his mistakes lately.   im definitely not giving up on him, i think he has a lot of potential especially like you said if he follows the path of silva and kotsar.  we're certainly going to need him next year.  it'll be huge for us down the stretch if he can give us some quality minutes as a rim protector.
