SCOUTING THE COWBOYS> Wyoming is led by head coach Allen Edwards in his fourth season in Laramie.  Edwards was a standout performer during his college career at Kentucky, helping lead the Wildcats to two national championships.> R-sophomore guard Hunter Maldonado is Wyoming's top offensive threat early this season.  He scored 32 points on 12-of-19 shooting, and was 8-of-10 at the free throw line in Wyoming's season-opening win over Idaho State.> Maldonado missed the final half of last season due to injury, but he did start and play 37 minutes in the matchup with the Gamecocks in Laramie, scoring nine points, with four assists and three steals.> Wyoming held Idaho State to just 31.9 percent from the field, and just 16.7 percent from 3-point range.

I hope the basketball team shows up and plays well today...I really need to see a good Carolina performance after the football loss to App State.

Gamecocks lead Wyoming 35-16 at the half. Lawson is proving that his quiet night during the season-opener was not going to be the norm, as he leads the team with 11 pts. Couisnard has 7 pts, and Bolden added 6 pts....

Seems we have good defense early in the season. That's comforting but the sample size is too small to see trends accurately. Either way, good work!

Go Cocks!!!

Glad to see Martin is still working a lot of players from the bench. We had 11 different players score today. Very well played.

I feel Cleveland St will be more of the same.

This was the first time that I got to see the guys play. Thoughts:

Bolden, Couisnard and McCreary are all really solid players. Long and active on both ends of the court. Along with Lawson, Kotsar, Minaya and Bryant (when he returns), the rotation is deep.

Frink can be really effective inside now that he is in good shape. Kinda of like Wes Unseld from back in the day, maybe a little shorter but also quicker.

I was very surprised by Leveque. He is stronger and less of a project than I thought. I think that he may have already passed Henry, based on the playing rotation against Wyoming.

Hannibal is pretty raw but does have a lot of physical talent and potential. I think that he will be a totally different player by the end of the year.

They reinforced what I thought preseason - this is a Top 25/NCAA tournament/Top 4 SEC team. We have depth, athleticism, length, quickness, along with enough experience and team leaders. You can tell that Frank knows it too.
Yeah, he's the most confident I have seen since he's been here.

i dont know what our ceiling is on defense but the talent is there to get it back to being a frank martin defense.  its meaningless this early to throw out stats but through 2 games we're 5th in defensive rating, last year 158th, final four team 4th.  we'll see if we can sustain that high level of play, but i think we have the talent to be very good on that end with my one area of concern being defensive rebounding from our bigs and kotsar in particular.

offensively we have 4 guys on the perimeter who are a threat on every area of the floor which is probably more than frank has ever had here with hannibal and moss giving us some minutes off the bench you hope more of their shots will start falling.  question going forward is will our bigs give them enough help which once again brings us back to kotsar.  right now hes only shooting 27% from 2 pt range which is obviously awful, but the last 2 years in sec play hes shot 33.7% and 39.5% which still isnt close to where you need him to be especially with him now being the biggest presence on the floor.   i dont think anyone is expecting him to become chris silva, but we at least need him to be more capable inside the arc than haase.  lchat was of similar size to kotsar and shot almost exactly the same 2pt% in sec play his freshman year, his last 3 years he ended up around 50% two of those years and well above it the other.  even if the guards are capable of carrying us this year im still hoping kotsar can get to a minimum of 45% in sec play.
