SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  •  Auburn began the season with 15 straight victories, rising to as high as No. 4 in the AP poll, before suffering losses at Alabama and at Florida last week.
  • The Tigers are led by head coach Bruce Pearl in his sixth season in Auburn.
  • Auburn had three-straight league wins to open the 2020 campaign, at Mississippi State, and home wins vs. Vanderbilt and Georgia.
  • The Tigers are a perfect 9-0 at home and are averaging 86.1 points per game in those contests.  Auburn has scored 80+ in eight of those games.
  • The Tigers recorded just 47 points in the loss at Florida, their lowest offensive output of the season.
  • Samir Doughty leads four who average double figures with 14.6 points per outing.  Isaac Okoro (12.8), J'Von McCormick (10.9) and Austin Wiley (10.6) also average 10+ per game. Wiley's 9.2 rebounds lead the team and rank second in the SEC.
COMING UP NEXT

  • After a two-game road swing, Carolina returns to Colonial Life Arena on Saturday to host Vanderbilt at 8 p.m. ET.  The matchup will be broadcast on the SEC Network with Dave Neal (play-by-play) and Joe Kleine (analyst) on the call.

We will be underdogs, but that is fine.   We can win this game.    Hope we are sharp.   I love beating Pearl.

The task definitely got tougher without Bryant tonight.
Yes, that is true.  However, I think that you'll find that Keyshawn's strengths (his athleticism and highflying moves around the basket) would have been offset anyway by Auburn's defense around the basket.  Bryant will be missed, for certain, but it gives us an advantage of being able to utilize Justin Minaya more often.  I can honestly see us starting with two bigs against Auburn (we shall see if Coach Martin agrees with me or not).  Because of the matchups vs. Auburn, I'm not as upset as I normally would be by the loss of Bryant.  I look for a very competitive game, and if the Gamecocks can stick to strong work on the offensive glass, getting the second chance shots, we'll be in good shape.

Auburn is favored by 11 points.   We won't have Bryant.   But we will have Moss.  Not sure about Hannibal.    We'll have to play well, but we can do it.  I feel so much more confident now that Couisnard is our PG.

Gamecock wing Keyshawn Bryant will miss the game with a head injury and  still no update on Trae Hannibal, who is dealing with an ankle injury.

The Gamecocks will officially be without two of their premier playmakers Wednesday when they take on Auburn on the road. Neither Keyshawn Bryant nor Trae Hannibal make the trip to the Plains dealing with different injuries. Hannibal didn't play last game against Texas A&M dealing with an ankle injury and he's missed enough time to not allow him to play Wednesday.

USC played the first half like they don't want to win.   Extremely bad half.   Lawson stunk.  Bolden couldn't put a marble in a swimming pool.  Couisnard missed the front end of a 1-1.    Bad defense.   I'm very disappointed.

The second half is much worse for USC.   Not playing defense at all.   Getting killed AGAIN from the FT line.     I really expected us to play a good game tonight, but I was wrong.  This team does not have the right mentality.    Need to play defense and be much more aggressive in driving to the rim.

I think Lawson is playing himself out of an opportunity for the NBA next year.  He may need to come back for one more year.

I don't think USC could beat anyone in the SEC tonight.   Maybe no one in the Big South.  Pathetic.

Unless Couisnard can learn to make FT, I don't think he is the answer at PG.    My confidence in him has withered.
