SCOUTING THE REBELS

 • Ole Miss is led by head coach Kermit Davis in his second season in Oxford.
 • The Rebels are 10-11 on the year, and just 1-7 in SEC games.
 • In home games, Ole Miss is 7-4, however, the Rebels have not won an SEC home game.
 • Ole Miss' trio of starting guards all average double figures on the year, led by Breein Tyree's 17.9 points per game, which ranks third in the SEC (overall games).  Devontae Shuler (11.5) and Blake Hinson (10.5) also average double figures.
 • In the SEC stats (overall games), Ole Miss is sixth in 3-point field goal percent (31.6), fifth in 3-point field goal percent defense (30.2), seventh in assists (13.5) and the Rebels are last, only blocking 2.7 shots per game.
COMING UP NEXT

 • South Carolina returns home for Legends Weekend at Colonial Life Arena on Saturday when the Gamecocks host Texas A&M.  Dave Neal (play-by-play) and Debbie Antonelli (analyst) will have the call for the 1 p.m. ET broadcast on the SEC Network.

Ole Miss is good at home.  Have had some tough, close losses.   Nobody in the SEC can be overlooked or underestimated.    We will need to play well in order to win.   But if we play well, I expect to win.  Gonna be interesting to see how the Minaya thing works out.  If he is out, some other guys will have to fill the void.

assuming minaya cant go hes a huge loss being our most versatile wing.  offensively puts even more pressure on our remaining shooters and kotsar to step up.  we have depth but it will force us to play differently since we dont have anyone to really plug and play if he cant go.

@crowcutta Based on Coach Martin's commentary over the last few days (post-Minaya injury being confirmed), I think you'll see two players stepping up to fill that void - Jayln McCreary for a defensive presence and little-used Trey Anderson to give us the offensive spark.  If Anderson is able to live up to the hype of his teammates, he's one of the best overall shooters on the team.  For him, it's a question of can he play the way Frank's system calls for him to play.  We'll see very quickly... you know that Coach Martin has a pretty quick hook if someone isn't getting it done defensively (or makes stupid, non-team offensive decisions).

I'm hopeful that Jalyn will get some quality minutes and show us what he's capable of.  He's averaged 12 minutes per contest since Tennessee, and is averaging almost 6 points per game in that same stretch.  If he can stay out of foul trouble, I think he's VERY capable of being a defensive monster.  Trey Anderson, on the other hand is quite the unknown quantity.  He's barely touched the ball at all offensively when he's been on the court (which has only been for 3 minutes or less in 3 contests since Wichita State.  Again... if his hype is indicative of what he can do, his teammates think that he'll make a LOT of shots for us.

Looking forward to tonight's contest!

Shuler and Hinson (former FB and MBB Gamecock Evan's younger brother) were both major recruiting targets for South Carolina. Hopefully we beat them on their floor, and show them what they chose to not be a part of.....

With Minaya out, I expect one of the bigs to start in his place.  Probably Leveque, but it might be McCreary or Frink.  All three will play in the post along with Kotsar.   If Frank decides to go small at any time, then I think Bryant would likely be moved to PF with one of the guards taking the SF position.   It should be fun to see how the guys handle things.   Bryant has not had a good game since Kentucky, imo.   He needs to get in his groove and provide some scoring and rebounding.   I think our guards can handle things, provided they can keep the OM guards from driving on them too much.   My biggest concern, as it is every game, is our fouling too much and our missing FT.   Hope we don't lose the game because of FT.

Looks like we're set to get blown out tonight. Another one of those games where we're totally not prepared to play a basketball game. We've had way too many of those type games this season.....

Ole Miss leads  43-32  at the halftime intermission. The Rebels were shooting upwards of 70% until the final 4-5 minutes of the half, then went into a slump, and the Gamecocks, behind Kotsar's 12 points, starting climbing closer to the lead, but went cold from the field for the final 3 minutes. Lawson, Bryant, and Bolden combined for 5 points in 32 minutes of play. If any of them can get their offense going in the 2nd half, we'd have a better chance....

Have we won a game all year, when we started off so slow?  I'm really curious...I know we came out short against TN, even though we played a much better second half.  The defense really needs to show up in the second half and hopefully, we will start making some shots.

Forget it.   USC NEVER comes from behind this far to win a game.   Kotsar has played well.   Nobody else has.    There's a reason Minaya was getting so many minutes.   His replacements can't play.     Forget the NCAA this year.   Not going.

dont like the lineups frank is trotting out there.  leveque is giving us nothing on either end.  whats disconcerting is the amount of 2nd chance points we're giving up.  gave up an offensive rebound on a free throw.   couisnard standing out of bounds for some reason giving up a 2nd opportunity.  another guy falling out of bounds and throws it to the other team.  as bad as we've shot and defended it would be no worse than a two possession game if we just rebounded on either end.

then what about the play where they have two guys on the floor yet somehow we dont even come close to getting the offensive board, pathetic.

They have played really poorly.  Good news is that Ole Miss has not been good in the second half all year.  Known to get out to fast starts, but wither down the stretch. Let's hope.

Concur.  The Rebs are also desperate for a win as they are 1-7 in the SEC right now.

We just have to take the punches and ride it out and let the game come to us.

I cannot understand what happens with Lawson.  He just disappears at times.  I really thought he would be a leader this year.  I think Minaya was becoming the guy that sets the tone kind of like Carrera was a few years ago and I think this team needs someone to step up and be that guy.

Also, Coach Martin talked about Anderson practicing well in recent days, and that he may get some minutes tonight, but he has not appeared in the game. Maybe that was more for the Ole Miss staff's benefit?? Don't know....

as terrible as leveque has been we had it down to 8 and our same issues crept in with him on the bench, not rebounding and not defending tyree worth a damn.   that said why the hell isnt he aggressively trying to block shots.  i feel like im watching haase out there on defense.  he blocked a shot in his first 5 games, hes only blocked a shot in 3 of his last 16.

6'2 guy goes in the lane and nobody can block his shot, pathetic. let one guy absolutely kill us.
