GAMECOCK-GAMEDAY THREAD: South Carolina vs.UMASS ***Dec. 04, 2019 at 7:00pm.***

52 points in the paint.

42 bench points.

55% FG percentage.

Balance.
Yeah, Nerf... I agree.  We looked good against UMass.  They’re (like the ‘Cocks) gonna be a REALLY good team.  They’ve got some serious shooters, which is why they had the numbers from behind the arc.  It wasn’t that we weren’t defending well.  They just were hitting tough shots all night long.  I thought we had our way with UMass in the paint, which was great to see, given UMass style of play with press defense anywhere and everywhere.  (That’s a look we won’t see very much anywhere else, so it was great to see how we reacted to it).  The other good news is Kotsar’s continued great play.  His confidence is WAY up, and he may have a stellar Senior campaign.  Having Keyshawn back was a huge key for our team.

I see two weak spots right now.  The bigs, other than Kotsar have GOT to learn Frank’s style of D.  The other is, believe it or not, AJ.  He’s not in sync with his teammates.  I think he read some of his press clippings and listened to the NBA talk. He’s a talented kid, for sure, but he’s not doing the little things.  If he quits being selfish with the ball, we’re a much better offensive team.  Better distribution from AJ, and we score about 16 more points this game, in my estimation.  But I’ll forgive AJ for now.  He put the ball thru the cylinder plenty of times tonight AND hit the two FTs to ice the game.

GREAT win tonight.  And I reiterate... we’re getting better and better and better.  I hope the Va. game is as good as I think it can be for us.

Frank said in the radio PG interview that Keyshawn had only one half practice and a full one before tonight's game, but still nailed that 3-pointer when we needed it.

Different guys are also stepping up, too.  Cousinard had 16 points tonight.  That's pretty good, too.

Cousinard looked good and was the right recipe against this defense. He looks good in space and isn't afraid to challenge anyone in front of him.

How was things from the free throw line last night ?? Did we make one ?? LOL

Definitely could have been better.  We were up by 11 with about two minutes left in the game, and couldn't hit the front end of one and one's.  UM hit several threes, and luckily AJ found his form when the lead was 82-80, and iced the game for us with both free throws.

16-26 at the line. AJ went 3-4 in the final 15 seconds or so to seal the W.

Like Furman said, we struggled with the front end, but if I recall Keyshawn, Alanzo, and Maik had trips to the line late in the game. Not exactly the 3 I would want at the line in that situation. I'm a bit surprised they didn't try to foul Alanzo and Maik more.

It just seems kind of weird to me D1 basketball players can't hit free throws. lol

How often do they show free throws on Sports Center?  Also a contributing factor as to why hardly anyone can hit a mid-range jumper.

But then I also don't understand why player's that can't shoot FT well don't try two handed basket style (aka Rick Barry)...if it could add 8-15 points to my stat total every night.  A big man that draws contact and can shoot FT makes serious bank in the NBA for a long time.
