The 1966-97 and 1969-70 seasons have been referenced by the media in terms of our W-L record, but nothing about the times we have been inside the Top 15, so here we go.

Basically it's two seasons of the Eddie Fogler era and multiple seasons in the Frank McGuire era, so Lamont is in rare air right now.

Let's start with the 1969-70 season, the year we won the ACC Championship under McGuire but were not selected for the NCAAT because on conference tournament champions were selected for the NCAAT. We lost the ACC Tournament to NC State 42-39 in 2OT that season, so we didn't go to the NCAAT.

We competed as an Independent beginning with the 1971-72 season. We went 24-5 and went to the Sweet 16 where we lost to #2 UNC 92-69. We defeated #15 Villanova 90-78 in the Regional Third Place Game. There were only 32 teams in the NCAAT back then.

We were 22-7 and went to the Sweet 16 the previous season, but were never ranked inside the Top 15 that year. We lost 90-76 to Memphis St. in the Sweet 16 that year (1972-73).

The 1974-75 season was the last one of the Frank McGuire era that we were ranked inside the Top 15. We went 19-9 that year and lost in the Second Round of the NIT to Princeton 86-67.

The Gamecocks were briefly ranked at #12 during the 1990-91 season under George Felton. Felton's name has come up after our W-L record reached a certain point this year. Felton coached the Gamecocks to an 87-62 record from 1987-1991. His 1988-89 squad lost 81-66 in the First Round of the NCAAT to 5th-seed NC State. His 1990-91 squad was his best team.

Felton's squad started the first half of the 1990-91 season pretty good, being ranked at #21 after a 4-1 start which included wins over #18 Virginia and #4 UNC. LA Lakers' standout Rick Fox from the Shaq/Kobe era was a SR G on Dean Smith's squad that season. The Gamecocks were eventually ranked at #12 prior to a 52-49 win over BYU and a 78-69 loss to an unranked Maryland team.

The Gamecocks fell out of the Top 25 following a loss to unranked Memphis and lost 7 of their last 12 games in the regular season to finish at 19-12, losing to Siena in the Second Round of the NIT.

The non-conference part of the legendary 1996-97 season included five losses to UVA, #14 UNC, #8 Clemson, UNC Asheville, and Charleston Southern for a 6-5 pre-conference record.

The Gamecocks came in at #25 after a 7-0 start to SEC play. They rose to #12 prior to a loss to unranked UGA and a bounce-back win over #8 Cincinnati. The Gamecocks would remain in the Top 10 all the way up to an upset loss to Coppin St. in the First Round of the NCAAT, despite winning the SEC regular season championship.

Despite the early exit from the NCAAT the prior season, the Gamecocks would remain in the Top 15 for all but two games of the entire 1997-98 season, and that still close at #16. Despite receiving an at-large bid as a #3 seed to the NCAAT, the Gamecocks would suffer a tough 62-61 loss to the 14th-seed Richmond Spiders in the First Round.

2/15/97 the Larry Davis show, what a show he put on that day against Cincinnati and a little known freshman spread his wings and became a legend as he became like Mike and dunked on the entire Cincinnati team, Herbert Lee was his name damn Herbert Lee Davis

Those are some great memories!! Thank you, Coach Fogler was a great one, the trio of McKie, Watson and Davis produced some absolute thrilling moments in GAMECOCK history

Found this little gem from the 1974-75 season. The first game is our 78-77 loss to unranked St. John's in OT on the road when we were ranked #11 at the time.

The second game is our dominating 82-63 win over Manhattan at the Carolina Coliseum when we were ranked 15th at the time.

Different era, so no dunks or 3-pointers, but the ball movement from the unselfish passes against Manhattan is very similar to what we are seeing this year.

Alex English, Mike Dunleavy Sr, Tom Boswell, Nate Davis, and Jackie Gilloon (a great ballhandler).
