Gamecock tailback MarShawn Lloyd in transfer portal
Dec. 12, 2022

South Carolina’s leading rusher is reportedly set to leave Columbia. Multiple national outlets, including On3 and 247Sports, reported on Monday afternoon that running back MarShawn Lloyd has entered the transfer portal. A South Carolina spokesman confirmed that Lloyd was in the portal. A social media post on Sunday prompted speculation about Lloyd’s future.

“Game ain’t based on sympathy! Do what’s best for you,” Lloyd posted to Twitter. The Delaware native ran for 573 yards on 111 carries this fall, his first as the lead back at South Carolina.

Lloyd was dynamic this year, averaging 5.16 yards per carry, but he missed games against Vanderbilt, Florida and Tennessee due to a thigh contusion. He received 11 carries for 17 yards in the season-ending win over No. 8 Clemson. The Gamecocks are now slotted to lose two of their most dynamic playmakers from the 2022 season in Lloyd and tight end Jaheim Bell, who entered the transfer portal last week.

Good for Marshawn. Satterfield and Beamer could have done a better job with Lloyd in the offense.

Our rushing attack was putrid.

I hope he goes to a program that can get him to the NFL. That was not going to happen here.

we could have got him to the nfl, now in the best possible draft position which as a rb you'd want considering the short shelf life that may be another story. i wanted to say he didnt read the room with his goodbye message, but he got more positive replies than i was expecting.

we'll see if theres more to it, its been speculated that hardesty could be let go. maybe its as simple as the last 2 games he played in there was no running room and sandwiched between that was a month long injury. where he ends up will likely tell the story of why he left since we wont likely get an honest reason.

Wish Lloyd nothing but the Best. Hope he finds a good home.
