AD Ray Tanner on SportsTalk: I think if there are, at least, three SEC teams playing in the New Year's Six Bowl Games, there's a strong possibility we can participate in a bowl game.

Who will coach the team on the Gamecocks accepting bowl if if offered?

If South Carolina plays in a bowl game, Beamer will not coach in that, which has been the plan all along. It still remains to be seen whether or not the Gamecocks will play in a bowl game.

“It kind of starts with how many of our teams are going to be playing up in the New Year’s Six, if you will,” Tanner said. “When I talk about the New Year’s Six, the CFP and New Year’s Day bowls, so if you answer that question, then I would tell you there’s a possibility that we would be playing as well. “You’d probably feel pretty confident about the SEC moving up, what three or four teams?”

Tanner added, “That being said, then the likelihood that we would play in a bowl game would be strong.” Between regular season schedules, extra games and conference title matchups, there are still two weekends to go, before all of that can be settled.

“We’re certainly not a lock,” Tanner said, “But if we do get those teams up (into the New Year’s Six), then we’ve got a lot of bowl slots that we’re affiliated with in the Southeastern Conference.”

This is past the ridiculous stage now an 2 - 8 team going to an new year's bowl  really think about it,  They are now missing half of the staff and to ask these kids to go play under these circumstances is beyond belief.  It's all about the dollar no consideration for the well being of these kids.

Of course they won't to play with everything going on with the Big ten and ACC,  The NCAA should step in and say no , it's not happening we're not having an National Championship playoff this year.    The COVID is just to big of an risk but that will not happen because we have lost the integrity for the game .

I can just  hear the upstate school now if that would take place.  After al they robbed the women's team WBB last year.

That's a good point Bear. I dont know what the affiliations are with these bowls, but my guess is the Big10 may forfeit their bowl ties due to lack of a season and Covid. Possibly others as well. It just makes more sense to not have many of the bowl games (or any at all) rather than try to cram teams into bowls.

we would not be in a NYs bowl. I think the comment was if more SEC get picked for playof/ NY's bowls, some of the lower SEC bowl slots would open for us.

But overall I agree - Seems pretty ridiculus.

I agree it's all about money, but I thought the players liked going to bowls.  I would hope that we/anyone wouldn't send a team to play a game with less than adequate personnel to take care of the players/team.  Who, besides Muschamp, wouldn't be going to the bowl game?  The other coaches are still under contract, no?

if offered why not let the players decides?  Seems like they are the ones playing through this mess...should not be up to fans lol

The players apparently want to play.  The problem is having a skeleton coaching crew and no one knowing in the month of the bowl game who's going to be on staff, and our new head coach not being on the sideline.

Basically these bowl games are just another game, not really bowl games IMO.  I am sure I would tune in, but it seems ridiculous for us to play in a "bowl" game.

Yeah, this year they basically are.  But after thinking about it, I think it's a good idea for us and all teams to fill up the bowl games.  They are businesses too and are supported by fan, TV and advertising dollars.  If we want these games/bowls available in the future, it might be a good idea to support them.

Beamer's busy honoring his commitment somewhere else so he can't be there for his current team...someone will be along shortly to repeat the party line and tell you this is admirable.

How many times do people have to tell other people that Beamer's contract hasnt been approved by the board yet, meaning that Beamer is not officially an employee yet.

1. They've already announced his hiring, so if they wanted his contract approved it would be.

2. If it is not approved by the time we're playing in a bowl game, there is a big problem.

3. Thanks for predictably repeating the company line, without questioning it.

Seems you keep bitching about him not being there as much as people say it is admirable lol

Does that means he'll start on the 15th, when the BOT meets to approve it?

Of course not.  If they wanted they could've gotten the BOT together to approve his contract.  The limitation isn't the BOT meeting, it's that Beamer wants to finish the season at Oklahoma.

Oh God please no...let this miserable season finally be over without having to sit through another 3-4 TD beat down.
