The Mocs will provide a good breather before the Clemson game and make the Gamecocks bowl eligible for the 3rd year in a row. I think the Gamecocks defense should be able to handle the Mocs offense.
What’s Going To Happen
This is more than just a relaxing scrimmage between the road showdowns against Florida and Clemson.
South Carolina is coming off an ugly meltdown against Florida, blowing a big lead in a 35-31 loss. It still needs to be bowl eligible, and it’s going to take something special to hang around in the rivalry date against the Tigers.
Just to show it can, USC has to come up with a blowout.
Each of the last five Gamecock games have been decided by four points or fewer, and Chattanooga has just enough of a defense to be annoying.
The Mocs don’t have a ground game, and the offense isn’t explosive, but the defense is among the best in the FCS in takeaways thanks to a terrific secondary.
There can’t be any drama for the Gamecocks. Get up early on a few scoring drives, and that should be enough against a team that failed to score more than 14 points in four of the last six games.
The USC offense will lose a turnover to let the Mocs hang around a wee bit, but the punting game will take over and the field will be tilted for most of the evening.
The Gamecock defense will be fantastic in the second half – Chattanooga won’t run the ball a lick – and the team will have its easy win for bowl eligibility.

Pick: South Carolina 42, Chattanooga Mocs 14
