South Carolina on Tuesday night received a commitment from Class of 2017 receiver Stephen Guidry of New Roads, La., and Hinds Community College in Mississippi.
Stephen Guidry 6'5" 190lbs signed with McNeese State in 2015 and redshirted there last season. He enrolled at Hinds this semester and will play the 2016 season for the Eagles. He is on track to graduate in the spring of 2017 and will have three seasons of eligibility at USC.
And he’s expecting to make an immediate impact.
“I want to be the star of the team and South Carolina doesn’t have receivers,” Guidry said. “I looked at their highlights and I pictured myself playing for them. Today I had a dream and I was in a South Carolina uniform and my family was in the stands and I caught the game winning touchdown.”
Guidry received his first offer, from USC, in January. He has since added offers from Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi State, Miami and Louisiana Monroe.
He contacted Will Muschamp and receivers coach Bryan McClendon Tuesday night with his commitment, and it was enthusiastically received.
“He (Muschamp) said I made his day,” Guidry said. “He welcomed me to the family and said he was glad to have me as part of the team. Coach McClendon told me I’m going to be a deep threat and he wants me to come and make plays.”
Guidry joins Chapin tight end Will Register as committed to the Gamecocks for 2017. Offensive lineman Dennis Daley and defensive end Javon Kinlaw, previous commitments who are now at junior college, also are expected to be part of the 2017 USC class.
