Gamecocks among the early offers for Orlando quarterback

Kurt Roper has South Carolina in on the ground floor with 2018 quarterback Joe Milton.
On May 18, the Gamecocks offensive coordinator offered the 6-foot-5, 205-pound 2018 quarterback from Olympia High School (Orlando, Fla.).
The interest is mutual. Earlier this month, Milton visited South Carolina for the Will Muschamp Football Camp.
“At South Carolina, the camp was very great,” Milton said. “Coach Roper is a great coach. I like working with coach Roper. He taught me a lot of things, how to keep my feet steady and to keep my feet moving at a certain pace, how to keep my elbow up, my shoulders, things like that.”
It was his first trip to Columbia.
“The campus was awesome. I liked everything about the campus, all the staff, all the faculty. Everything was awesome,” Milton said.
The Gamecocks head coach also had some face time with Milton, who passed for 1,115 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.
“I had a few minutes with (Muschamp). He’s a very cool guy,” Milton said. “Everything that he was talking about, I learned from my experience, about family issues. There are some things that he went through that are similar to what I went through. I think we have a great connection.”
That was the plan, to have the prospect become more familiar with the coaches.
“It was more about trying to get to know me, so we have a better connection,” Milton said. “Other than that, coach Will Muschamp was talking about how they wanted me to keep my grades up, so I can come to school early, so I can learn everything before the season comes.
“Everything went great.”
Along with South Carolina, Milton’s bus tour stops included Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest and NC State.
“Right now, I don’t really have any favorites or top schools, because I only have six offers … I only have certain big offers, like South Carolina, Iowa State and FAU,” he said. “I mean, those three schools stand out, but anything could change.”
Akron, McNeese State and Mercer have also offered.
