Since committing to South Carolina, three-star offensive tackle Eric Douglas has taken on the role of recruiter.
The top two prospects on his list are his teammates at Mallard Creek High School (Charlotte, N.C.). Four-star athlete Ryan Jones has been committed to North Carolina since February, but he visited South Carolina in April along with Douglas and uncommitted four-star guard T.J. Moore.

“I say it’s SEC football. You get people sleeping on the education at South Carolina, but you get the best of both worlds, education and football,” Douglas said, “And you can come in early and make an impact.”
South Carolina landed his commitment on April 2 over a number of SEC schools, including Florida, Mississippi State and Kentucky.
“First off, they offered me first, so they saw what I had in the beginning. Of all the 20 offers that I had, they offered me first,” Douglas said. “Coach (Shawn) Elliott, he was just personable and then when Coach (Will) Muschamp and the coaches changed staffs, they just always told me that I was a priority, and that’s why I felt at home every time I came down.”
Douglas looks forward to working with Elliott along the offensive line.
“I like everything about him. He develops players nicely. He has a lot of people in the draft and in the NFL picked up as free-agents, so you see the development that he has with his players,” Douglas said, “And how he is as a coach, he’s just personable with you. He lets you know what needs to be done and teaches you the right technique to get it done.”
With Muschamp running the show in Columbia, Douglas foresees big things for the Gamecocks.
“I like his fire. I like everything that he brings to the table at South Carolina. He’s a great coach, a great recruiter,” Douglas said. “I think it’s going to be a great turnaround this year… I think the defense will be rock-solid and the offense will put up a lot of points. I think it will be a turnaround this year. In the next couple of years, that’s when he’s going to get the thing rolling.”
Douglas is the No. 78 offensive tackle in the nation. He, Jones and Moore are all among the top 25 players in the state of North Carolina.
