Gamecocks continue to line up official visitors
Dec. 05, 2016

Official visits to South CarolinaSouth Carolina just concluded a significant recruiting weekend during which Will Muschamp and his staff played host to several of their 2017 commitments.

We’ll continue to see more official visitors over the next couple of months as signing day approaches.

Below is a list of the uncommitted targets and their official visit plans for South Carolina.

OT

Three-star prospect Jerry Drake Jr. (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) took his official visit to South Carolina during the season. Three-star target Jordan Rhodes (Fairburn, Ga.) and 4-star prospect T.J. Moore (Charlotte, N.C.) are scheduled to visit in January.

At this point, there’s no word on whether 4-star recruit Tony Gray (Loganville, Ga.) will use one of his officials at South Carolina.

DL

Former South Carolina commitment Javon Kinlaw (Goose Creek, S.C.) will visit in January. Three-star prospect Aaron Sterling (Tucker, Ga.) has planned to be on campus this coming weekend. Tucker High School has a state championship game on Friday night, so there’s no word on whether that’s changed his plans.

Three-star recruits Romello Martin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Brad Johnson (Pendleton, S.C.) are scheduled to visit in January.

Former South Carolina commitment Devonte Wyatt (Decatur, Ga.) continues to consider the Gamecocks, even though he’s currently committed to Georgia.

DB

Junior college defensive backs Keisean Nixon (Compton, Calif.) and Kaleb Chalmers (Greenwood, S.C.) visited for the Western Carolina game. Three-star safety Naytron Culpepper (Miami) also used his official visit to South Carolina during the season.

There’s no word yet if 4-star safety Deangelo Gibbs (Loganville, Ga.) will take an official to South Carolina. Same with 3-star cornerback Yusuf Corker (Stockbridge, Ga.).

New list of favoritesAt some point within the next 12 months or so, we’ll finally find out where Xavier Thomas is going to play college football.

Until then, buckle up.

The 5-star defensive end from Florence, S.C., will begin life at IMG Academy in January. South Carolina and Clemson, the two schools long perceived as the favorites for Thomas, will no longer be a quick day trip away.

Thomas, who released a top 7 video on Sunday, is closest to Florida, which is about 2.5 hours from Bradenton. Florida State, one of his original top 4 schools, is about 4.5 hours away.

That original list, by the way, also included South Carolina, Clemson and Ohio State. Alabama Florida and Georgia were the newest additions.

Confirmed plansNixon, a junior college cornerback, confirmed plans for his final official visit, before announcing a commitment on Dec. 17.

Nixon has also taken official visits to South Carolina and Oregon State

. All three schools occupy a spot in his top 6, which also includes Georgia, Mississippi State and UCLA.

UCLA, his hometown school, hosted him for an unofficial visit a couple of weeks ago.

South Carolina continues to be perceived as the favorite for Nixon, who will be transferring from Arizona Western Community College.
