Gamecocks double down Hogs 92-46

COLONIAL LIFE ARENA: Arkansas head coach Mike Neighbors said that if Aliyah Boston keeps playing like this, South Carolina (20-0, 8-0) may have to make room next to Aja Wilson for another statue. If the Gamecocks keep playing like this, they may need to make room for another banner in the rafters, as well. USC hit the boards often and early, setting a school record for rebounding margin in a 92-46 victory over the Razorbacks, Sunday.
Aliyah Boston (13 points, 14 rebounds) grabbed her tenth rebound early in the third quarter to secure her 73rd career double-double, breaking a tie with Gamecocks legend Sheila Foster. Foster was in attendance and led the crowd in cheering Boston as she exited late in the third quarter with the game well in hand. USC head coach Dawn Staley said her players always hear Foster’s voice in the crowd, imploring them to “keep pounding.” Staley said she wanted her players to attack the boards, just like Foster did when she was “terrorizing opponents.”
While Kamilla Cardoso (12 points, 16 rebounds) and Boston were bullying Arkansas in the paint, Zia Cooke was cashing in from the perimeter. Cooke knocked down 4 of 5 from behind the arc and led all scorers with 24 points. Cooke was in total control, showcasing all her skills (and confidence) as she turned her back and pranced down the court as her fourth 3-pointer glided through the net.
Arkansas hung tough early, trailing just 25-17 at the end of the first quarter, but were soon overwhelmed by South Carolina’s size and speed. In the final tally, the Gamecocks outrebounded the Razorbacks 74-17.
The nation’s top-ranked team will next put its flawless record on the line at Alabama, Sunday. Tipoff from Tuscalossa, Ala. is set for 1 p.m.
