Gamecocks get Conway WR Bryan Edwards back in the boat

Bryan Edwards
New USC football coach Will Muschamp is on the board with is first commitment, though it’s an old name to the Gamecock commitment board.  WR Bryan Edwards of Conway Tuesday recommitted to the Gamecocks nearly a month after stepping away from his original pledge of March 28th.  He will enroll in January.

Edwards made his official visit to USC last weekend then took a couple of days to sort out his decision between the Gamecocks and Clemson.

USC had always pursued Edwards as a wide receiver but Clemson gave him a lot to think about by offering him the chance to play safety.  He took an official visit with the Tigers on November 21st.  After decommitting Edwards also drew interest from Georgia and most recently Miami but he kept his focus on the in-state programs.

Edwards was one of the state’s top players this season until suffering a season ending knee injury in late October.  He finished his high school career with 188 catches for 2562 yards and 32 touchdowns.

“He has a big frame and can go up and get the ball,” said Conway coach Chuck Jordan.  “He attacks the ball at the highest point. And he’s a vertical threat.”

Edwards’ re-commitment puts USC back at 14 pledges for the 2016 class but there are several on the list who are looking at other options and could fall off.
