South Carolina defensive end Gerald Dixon returned to practice and the returning starter (and perhaps the Gamecocks best defensive lineman in 2014) is now No. 1 at the end spot opposite JUCO transfer Marquavius Lewis.
Previously, Cedrick Cooper and David Johnson were battling it out for that spot with Dixon sidelined for the majority of preseason camp with a leg injury.
That means the defensive line starters look like this now for South Carolina.
DE: Gerald Dixon (44)
DT: Dante Sawyer
DT: Gerald Dixon Jr.
DE: Marquavius Lewis
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier said that the coaches are going to have a depth chart by the end of the week with the players starting classes and also continued to praise defensive end Darius English, saying that he keeps "practicing like an All-American" and again was positive about the defensive line.
More notes from Wednesday morning's practice.
-Spurrier said that the offense has been "helter skelter" this week with so much rotating.
-Linebacker Jonathan Walton said the defense is getting tired of hitting the same people.
--The following players were in yellow jerseys: safety D.J. Smith (right knee), punter Joeseph Charlton, offensive lineman Cody Waldrop.
