Gamecocks in position to add another defensive end to 2016 class

July 07, 2016

If 2016 defensive end Mykelle McDaniel clears his academic hurdles, he plans to make South Carolina his home.

The 3-star prospect from Grayson High School (Loganville, Ga.) told The State’s Phil Kornblut that he’ll know for sure when he gets his test scores back on July 20.

South Carolina hosted him for an official visit in March. According to the 247Sports’ composite rankings, McDaniel is the No. 23 strong-side defensive end in the Class of 2016 and the No. 48 overall prospect from the state of Georgia.

South Carolina signed five defensive ends with the 2016 class: Griffin Gentry (2-star), D.J. Wonnum (3-star), Aaron Thompson (3-star), Darius Whitfield (3-star) and Keir Thomas (3-star).

Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State and Texas A&M were among the schools also recruiting the 6-foot-4, 240-pound recruit. As a senior, McDaniel had over 100 tackles and 13 sacks.
