South Carolina signed five defensive ends with the 2016 class: Griffin Gentry (2-star), D.J. Wonnum (3-star), Aaron Thompson (3-star), Darius Whitfield (3-star) and Keir Thomas (3-star).
Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State and Texas A&M were among the schools also recruiting the 6-foot-4, 240-pound recruit. As a senior, McDaniel had over 100 tackles and 13 sacks.
