USC basketball coach Frank Martin is on the board for the 2018 recruiting campaign with a commitment Saturday night from 6-4 Jermaine Couisnard of Montverde Prep, FL.  He’s a native of East Chicago, IN and he went home to make his decision known in front of family and friends.

Couisnard picked the Gamecocks over Louisville and Illinois.  He also had offers from Bradley, Massachusetts and Virginia Tech.  USC was his only official visit.

“I felt like coach (Frank) Martin, I can really trust him,”Couisnard said.  “I know he’s a hard coach but I know he loves the guys, so I know he’s going to bring the best out of you.  That’s what I need a coach to do.”

USC’s run to the Final Four last season certainly impressed Couisnard but he said that wasn’t necessarily a big factor in his decision.

“I always liked South Carolina, especially Coach Martin,” he said.  “Once I took my visit, I knew this is the school I want to be at.  Chuck Martin recruited me but I always knew about Frank Martin because my coaches at Montverde always telling me he’s one coach I should want to play for because he’s a hard coach.”

Couisnard is averaging 23 points and 7 rebounds per game this season.  He likes the Gamecocks’ style of play and sees a smooth transition ahead for himself.

“They like pushing the ball and that’s the thing that I like doing, getting the ball out running.  We’re going to fit in good.”
