USC’s big recruiting day Saturday, which included a pair of commitments for the 2018 class, also brought the Gamecocks’ their first commitment for 2019. LB Ahdarrious Gee 6'1" 190lbs of Cordele, GA committed to the Gamecocks while attending the Spurs Up Cookout. Gee said he also strongly considered Mississippi State and Vanderbilt but saw USC as his best opportunity.

“I chose the Gamecocks because I feel home here in South Carolina,” Gee said. “I like the education level and the type of defense they run. They like the way I play the linebacker position and get to the ball.”

Gee had 208 tackles and 2 sacks as a sophomore. He also said part of the attraction the Gamecocks offered him is the chance to play for a defensive minded head coach in Will Muschamp and for defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson.

“They’re two great coaches. I can’t wait to play for them,” Gee said.

Asked if he can stick to his commitment over the next two seasons, Gee replied, “Oh yeah

There are a couple of listings for Gee’s weight, depending on which recruiting site you read. The weight on 247Sports — listed above at 190, is a little lower than the Rivals weight: 203.

But let’s not get too caught up in that, at least for now. For one, Gee is still just a rising junior. However, with an in-person look at Gee during camp last month, it’s safe to say he has the frame to take on more weight and play either the middle or weakside linebacker spots at South Carolina.

Where Gee ends up at South Carolina is to be determined, probably by a couple of different things, but his physical development will play a large part in that.

Based off a few minutes of clips on Hudl, Gee has good instincts, a critical part for any linebacker position, particularly for the inside spots. That’s the feel on a few different highlights, whether he’s diagnosing run or pass, dropping back into coverage or blitzing the quarterback.

The 2019 prospect from Crisp County High School in Cordele, Ga. appears to check a couple of boxes, athletically, and it looks like he’s capable of running sideline to sideline.
