Gamecocks legend Connor Shaw will sign with the Chicago Bears
July 02, 2016
Connor Shaw was not without an NFL team for long.
The former South Carolina quarterback was claimed off waivers Friday by the Chicago Bears, one day after being released following a two-year career with the Cleveland Browns. Shaw will report to the Bears on July 27, he told The State via text message.
Shaw spent two years with the Browns after a decorated career in Columbia, where he won 27 games and presided over the most successful three-year run in school history. The Browns had five quarterbacks on their roster before waiving Shaw, including Robert Griffin III, Austin Davis, Cody Kessler and Josh McCown on their roster.
Shaw was signed by Cleveland as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and started the team’s final game of that season, going 14-of-28 for 177 yards and one interception against Baltimore. He missed the 2015 season due to a thumb injury.
