Gamecocks make early impression on young offensive lineman

Impressions of South Carolina
Micah Morris hasn’t finished his freshman year at Camden County High School (Kingsland, Ga.), but his double-digit scholarship-offer count includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Ohio State and South Carolina.
The 6-foot-4, 286-pound offensive lineman went to the spring games at South Carolina and Florida. He also attended an intra-squad scrimmage at Georgia earlier this spring. This summer, he’ll camp at South Carolina and Alabama.
Morris liked what he saw in Columbia.
“Seeing how the intensity was,” he said. “They were very intense. Everybody was pumped up and ready to go and I liked that.”
Morris added, “The way their program is run. I like the way they’re headed. They’re on the up now, up-rising.”
During the visit, Morris spoke with Gamecocks offensive line coach Eric Wolford.
“He introduced himself. He said keep working, stay big, keep working out, keep grades up, stay focused,” Morris said.
Looking elsewhere
What stood out at the other two SEC East schools he visited?
Florida: “That was good. I liked the fans, how they do the orange and blue thing. That was really nice. It was also intense. The players seemed to be pumped up. The crowd was into it. It was nice.”
Georgia: “It was really good. I got to see all the facilities, the academic halls, talked to all the coaches. They told me the same thing, stay focused, keep working, get bigger, get stronger.”
No rush at all
There’s still plenty of time for Morris — a member of the Class of 2021 — to make a decision about where he’ll play college ball. And it’s way too early to declare any favorites.
“Just feeling my way through it,” Morris said. “Everybody is open. Just trying to visit them all, to get to know them and know which ones I like.”
A few factors will be considered as he moves through the process.
“What I’m looking for, personally, is what a school can do for me,” Morris said. “Can this school help me achieve my goals and my dreams, while I’m also helping them out, by winning games and being a great teammate and a great person.”
