After a wild weekend of college baseball, primarily with teams near the top of the rankings dropping series, there was a lot of shakeup in the polls. South Carolina, with a perfect 4-0 week, was one of the beneficiaries moving up in the rankings.
The Gamecocks (33-8, 14-4) jumped five spots in the latest rankings from D1Baseball and are No. 7 in the poll, which was released on Monday morning. South Carolina is the fourth-ranked SEC team in the Top 25.
Florida, this week’s opponent for the Gamecocks, is ranked No. 1 nationally after former top-ranked team Miami went 1-3 on the week, which included a series loss to Virginia. The Gators took two of three from Georgia at home and remain one game behind the Gamecocks for the overall SEC lead.
Texas A&M, which travels to Columbia on May 13 for the final home series of the season, is ranked No. 2 nationally by D1 Baseball. There are seven SEC teams ranked in the top 13 nationally.
The Gamecocks moved up to No. 6 in the Baseball America moving up six spots from No. 12 last week. Perfect Game moved South Carolina up three spots to No. 8 nationally.
