Gamecocks news from The Opening stop in Atlanta

March 27, 2017

As usual, The Opening stop in Atlanta brought out some of the best prospects from the southeast, including one of the top 2018 in-state South Carolina recruits.

Three-star linebacker Channing Tindall, a junior at Spring Valley High School (Columbia, S.C.) shined among the stars, taking home SPARQ MVP and Linebacker MVP. He also scored an invite to The Opening finals in Oregon.

Tindall, of course, was featured by SEC Country late last week. Remember what he had to say about Muschamp?

The words “defensive guru” were dropped by Tindall, who’s tentatively scheduled to return to South Carolina on April 1 for the spring game.

There was a consensus amongst a handful of reporters who spoke to Tindall at The Opening on Sunday: He sounds like a recruit who’s leaning towards South Carolina.

One industry contact said Tindall listed South Carolina twice, when asked about schools he’s interested in.

South Carolina, Georgia and N.C. State were listed when Tindall was asked about which schools are recruiting him the hardest right now. Here’s to believing that some other options will emerge over the next couple of days, though his offer sheet was already robust: Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame…

All three of the predictions for Tindall on the 247Sports Crystal Ball are for the Gamecocks. Steve Wiltfong, the national director of recruiting for 247Sports issued a South Carolina prediction at the conclusion of Sunday’s camp in Buford.

If this author had a crystal ball to look into, the Gamecocks would be the pick, and would have been before Sunday, too. It will certainly be interesting to see how much, Tindall’s performance at The Opening changes his recruitment.

Can the groundwork put down by Muschamp and his staff pay off in the long-run?

As I see it, yes
