Gamecocks offer DBs from Georgia
North Gwinnett (Ga.) High School defensive backs Warren Burrell and D.J. Turner II were offered by South Carolina on Wednesday.
Linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Coleman Hutzler passed along the news after Burrell and Turner were summoned to their coach’s office. Hutzler spoke over the phone with each prospect individually.
“We had a conversation and he just ended up saying he saw my film and he liked what he saw, and he just wanted to give me an offer,” Burrell said.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback certainly has interest in South Carolina.
“I like, from an academic standpoint, they’re a great academic school. I really like that,” Burrell said. “That was my first time really talking to him, but I got the feel he’s a good coach and somebody I can learn from.
“The school, overall, it’s a very good school. South Carolina is one I’ve heard about since as long as I can remember. I just feel like it could be a really good fit.”
No arrangements have been made, but Burrell does plan on visiting the Gamecocks soon.
Wake Forest has also offered. That came in October. He’s been to Winston-Salem. Troy’s also hosted him.

Central Florida is in line for a visit. LSU, North Carolina, Michigan and Penn State have also been in contact.
“I’m thankful for anybody who really tries to recruit me and I’m thankful for the offer,” Burrell said. “I will consider it. I will really consider it.”
Turner has offers from Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina and Penn State.
“We both were excited. It was a good feeling, getting an offer together,” Burrell said.
