Concord (NC) defensive lineman Rick Sandidge talks his recruitment and what Gamecocks defensive players he likes watching.
SPARTANBURG South Carolina remains high on the list for Concord (N.C.) defensive tackle Rick Sandidge.
Sandidge said the Gamecocks remain in his top five along with Georgia, North Carolina, Florida and Michigan. He plans on taking all of his official visits and doing his in-home visits with the coaches in January but doesn’t have the order set yet.
“They have been recruiting me hard so that helps out a lot,” Sandidge said of the Gamecocks after Monday’s first practice for the Shrine Bowl.
Of those five, Sandidge, who will sign in February, said he hasn’t heard much from Florida with the change in coaching staff and his recruiter, Chris Rumph, joining Jeremy Pruitt’s staff at Tennessee.
Georgia, UNC and the Gamecocks have been recruiting him hard and made him a priority. Sandidge’s mom went to USC, but he said that won’t be a factor in his decision.
Sandidge has a good relationship with USC defensive line coach Lance Thompson and has been to several Gamecocks games this year. He said USC coaches said he will be a four-technique in three-man front and two technique in a four-man front.
“I have had a great relationship with coach Thompson for about two and a half years and I am getting to know him more as a coach,” Sandidge said.
Sandidge and compares himself to DJ Wonnum and Taylor Stallworth, who wears Sandidge’s No. 90.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder had 83 tackles and seven sacks during his senior season for Concord. Sandidge will be part of strong defensive line for the North Carolina squad, which includes KJ Henry.
“I’m just going to ball out. If I don’t get invited US Army game (injury replacement) this will be my last high school game so I want to finish strong,” Sandidge said.
