COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina baseball team opens Southeastern Conference play this weekend, hosting No. 8 Georgia for a three-game series beginning Friday night (March 15) at 7 p.m. at Founders Park. Game two will take place Saturday afternoon (March 16) at 4 p.m. with the series finale Sunday afternoon (March 17) at 1:30 p.m. All three games will be streamed on SEC Network + with Burch Antley and Kip Bouknight on the call. Carolina, winners of four straight contests, is coming off a 10-9 win at The Citadel on Tuesday night as Luke Berryhill drove in four runs, the Gamecocks scored seven runs in the first two innings and hung on for the one-run win.

PARKING INFORMATION

> For the third straight season, shuttle parking for the University of South Carolina baseball season will be operational at the Key Road Gravel Lot (1105 Key Road) and in Lot B of the Colonial Life Arena parking lot. Shuttles will begin running two hours prior to game time.

We strongly recommend that fans use the baseball shuttle from Key Road to Founders Park over the CLA shuttle for the convenience, spacious parking (650 spaces) and less congestion than at the arena. Please remember that at the arena, shuttle parking will be limited to 50 spaces because of the student demand for parking in this area. There is a high student demand Monday through Thursday that lasts until 7 p.m. because of classes. Lots A and B are also reserved for men's and women's basketball parking on Feb. 19, 26, March 3 and March 9.

For GPS purposes, the address for the Key Road Gravel Lot is 1105 Key Road, Columbia, SC 29201.

Talley leads Georgia and is second in the league with a .450 batting average. Riley King and Tucker Maxwell have 20 RBI each. On the mound, Friday night starter Emerson Hancock is 4-0 with a 0.38 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched.

THE SERIES

Carolina holds a 65-60 series advantage on Georgia heading into the weekend. The Gamecocks were swept by the Bulldogs last season in Athens. Noah Campbell had a pair of hits in the 7-5 loss on Friday, while Jacob Olson homered in Saturday's game. The last time the two teams played in Columbia, Carolina won a 10-0 contest in the 2017 regular-season finale. Jonah Bride was 3-for-5 with three RBI in that win.

RANKINGS

South Carolina stayed in most of the national polls after sweeping Valparaiso this past weekend. The Gamecocks are ranked 18th in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll and 20th in the Baseball America poll. Carolina is 22nd in the D1Baseball.com, 23rd in the USA TODAY Coaches' poll and 24th in the NCBWA Poll.

HOPKINS HITS FOR THE CYCLE IN VALPO WIN

Senior TJ Hopkins hit for South Carolina's first cycle since 2015 in the 12-6 win over Valparaiso on Sunday, March 10. Hopkins hit his sixth home run of the season in the fourth, doubled in the fifth, singled in the seventh and tripled in the eighth for Carolina's first cycle since Kyle Martin in 2015 at Florida. Hopkins currently is hitting .357 with five doubles, three triples and six home runs. Hopkins also is slugging .771 and has a .410 on-base percentage.

Reid Morgan works around a two-out infield with a strikeout to end T1. Gamecocks coming up

Three up, three down for South Carolina in B1. Georgia and Gamecocks are scoreless

BOTTOM 1 - Gamecocks go three up, three down. Perez grounds the sixth pitch of his at-bat to first. Eyster goes down missing an offspeed pitch. Changeup, I think. Hopkins gets some good wood on an offering from Smith - who is bringing his fastball in around 89-90 mph - but lines out to deep-ish center to end the inning. No score.

TOP 2 - Some really nice run on a fastball from Reid Morgan gets Meadows looking to begin the inning. Pitch started off the plate on the outside corner and ran back over it. Big shift against left-handed hitter Cable, who popped the home run against Sweatt last night. Morgan misses with a breaking ball in to fall behind 2-1. George Callil just made a defensive play at the standard second base position. Fastball called just outside on a 1-1 pitch by Morgan. Looked like a strike to me, that one. Morgan comes back with a strike, then Rogers lines a pitch back up the middle. Sullivan was supposed to start, but there was a late lineup change for the Bulldogs, and Rogers gets a hit. Jernigan up. Little shift on, and a bouncer to the traditional second base spot. But Perez has time to get over and make the play. No score.

BOTTOM 2 - Luke Berryhill up, and hits an absolutely fat breaking pitch into the worker tunnel just to the left of the visitors bullpen. That's the first run that C.J. Smith has given up in 14 innings this year, and only the second extra base hit he's allowed. That's Berryhill's team-leading 26th RBI. Olson grounds out to third, and Cullen goes down on an offspeed pitch in the dirt. Allen up, and he fouls away the first pitch he sees. Allen lifts a 2-2 pitch to medium depth in left center, for the final out of the inning. But Carolina takes an early lead, thanks to Berryhill. Carolina leads 1-0  :baseball-on-fire-smiley-emoticon:

Back-to-back leadoff singles, a double play (interference at third sends runner back to second) and then a single scores Georgia's first run of the day. 1-1 in T3

TOP 3 - Two singles start the inning and Georgia has a little something cooking. Nine-hole hitter Maxwell pulls a grounder to the four hole. Perez makes a sliding play in the outfield grass. Can't quite grip the ball cleanly, and that costs him. Safe at first on a bang-bang play. Then a line drive hit-and-run single to right. But Perez deeked Maxwell, who slid into second base. So its first and second with two-hole hitter King up, who grounds into a 6-4-3 double play. Shepherd called for interference on his slide into second, so Maxwell has to go back to second base. Doesn't matter though, as Schunk singles to left field. Allen's throw is way off line and Maxwell slides in easily. Ball gets away from Berryhill and runner to second easily. Talley up, and he fouls away a pitch to make it 1-2 in the count. Big shift on him. Callil playing five feet to the opposite side of second base. Perez playing 15 feet onto the outfield grass. It's a 2-2 count now. He ends up walking putting two on and Skylar Meade will jog to the mound. No one in the bullpen - like, not even in the bullpen. Meadows takes a first pitch fastball on the inside corner for a strike, then watches a breaking ball away for a 1-1 count. Big hitter here for Morgan. He's labored some this inning. Gets a foul ball bringing up his 50th pitch of the game. Errors in back to back games for Callil. Slow roller back up the middle. Makes the play in front of the bag, and has to rush his throw to first. A little wide, a little early stretch, and Cullen has to come off the bag. Morgan comes right back and gets a four-pitch strikeout to end the inning though. He's on 54 pitches as he strands the bases loaded. Score tied 1-1

HOME RUN Ian Jenkins, a solo moonshot to right field to put the Gamecocks back up in B3, 2-1

Nice to see for sure going to need them!!

And now a bloop single to left field from Jacob Olson that falls in between three Georgia players scores Berryhill. 5-1 Gamecocks

How it happen

BOTTOM 3 - Ian Jenkins leads off, and he shows off his man strength. Muscles an up and away fastball just over the right field wall. An opposite field shot, and South Carolina's second solo home run of the game. Callil hits a bouncer to the six hole. Shepherd makes a really nice play moving to his right. Perez is hit with an up and in fastball. Just missed getting hit earlier in the at-bat. I still don't understand why pitchers don't do a better job of making Perez and Callil put bat on ball instead of arm on ball, but no reason to complain. Mound meeting. Eyster takes a ball, then swings at a down and in breaking ball to level the count at 1-1. Another pitch left up, another pitch leaves the yard. Ball carries over the right field wall again, and this one had a little more distance to it. Three home runs in the game, one with someone on base. Hopkins grounds out to the shortstop. Berryhill hits into the shift but gets it through for a single through the left side. Olson hits a blooper into the triangle behind shortstop. Ball bounces around out there and Berryhill is being waved all the way around by Stuart Lake. Great hustle from the start by Berryhill, or he never has a chance. Lollipop throw from someone out there, not sure who, and its 10 feet over the catcher. Olson goes into second base. Cullen goes down on strikes, but a really nice inning there for the Gamecocks. Carolina leads 5-1
